Faith And Culture Wins From Statues To Sports

They ripped down a Columbus statue, smashed it into pieces, and dumped it into Baltimore Harbor. Years later, a crew goes underwater, hauls it back up, and a brand-new replacement statue ends up installed at the White House. We unpack why that matters, what it says about how a nation remembers its past, and why telling the full American history beats trading in slogans.
From there, we jump to a surprising moment of public faith in sports. Chris Pratt describes standing with his son in a Super Bowl locker room as the Seattle Seahawks drop to their knees in prayer and give glory to God. We talk about why that kind of humility hits so hard right now, and why visible gratitude and courage can shape the next generation far more than another viral rant ever will.
Then we take on the fear factory. Paul Ehrlich’s “Population Bomb” helped mainstream overpopulation panic and a worldview that treats humans as the problem. We walk through the record of predictions that didn’t happen, the personal cost of believing them, and a better biblical framework for environmental stewardship that protects creation without devaluing people. We close with an unexpected bright spot from Hollywood, where an Oscars speech celebrates marriage, children, and the joy of motherhood.

Rick Green [00:00:07] Welcome to the intersection of faith and culture. It's the WallBuilders Show on a Friday, which means we're gonna jump into a lot of good news to share with you today. Rick Green here with David Barton and Tim Barton. Be sure to visit our websites today, wallbuilders.com and wallbuilders.show. Fellas, I'm gonna start. I don't, usually y'all have all the good news, but I just wanna read one of the emails we got. This is so good. Hey, WallBuilders, I wanted to thank you for all your episodes and all you do to equip the saints biblically, historically, constitutionally, and in current events. WallBuilders is my lifeline. The churches in my local community are so weak and WallBuilders is one of the main ways I get fed, challenged, and equipped to live out the faith. Wow, guys, that, what a blessing. I mean, that's, that's what we pray for, right? That's what we hope to be doing here on the program. So it's sometimes good to hear from folks that articulate, I mean, he literally described exactly what the mission of the program is. And hopefully the churches as well, you know, that they listen to the program and then take some of the information they're learning. We say, hopefully we know we hear from a lot of pastors that take what they hear on the program and apply it in their church and even talk about it and give current events on Sunday morning and the biblical, historical and constitutional application that they heard on the WallBuilders program. But really appreciate that email. David and Tim where else we're going to go on some good news today? David, Are you getting us started?
David Barton [00:01:25] I'm gonna start with some bad news from six years ago. If we can remember six years ago and who wants to remember that, but in the middle of COVID. And you also had all the riots that were going on. Antifa, Black Lives Matter, statues coming down everywhere. It was a really not good time at that point. And so, as you look back at that, it's interesting that the liberals and progressives love taking down statues sometimes. It's interesting to see the statues that they've raised and erected. So, this was literally done in New York, atop the Appellate Division, New York State Supreme Court. They put a demonic statue up. It's a dehumanized figure. It has got all this horn kind of stuff, and the guy who created it said it's designed to capture the spirit of the movement seeking to legalize abortion across the United States. So, it's this demonic kind of looking statue. They're happy to keep that up, happy to put that up in their government buildings. You have the Baphomet statue, the satanic statue that was erected in Iowa, and they celebrated that one that was displayed at the Capitol. So, they like statues if they're the right thing. They just don't like statues of missionaries like Junipero Serra. They don't like statues of Abraham Lincoln or Theodore Roosevelt or all those statues that came down in that period of time. It's not that they're anti-statue. They just like the good things. So, with all of that that happened, there was a statue of Christopher Columbus that was torn down in Baltimore. Tim, you and I actually visited there. We were doing some some recording there and went to where that statue it was erected in '84 under Ronald Reagan. And so, it was a big deal. But they not only tore it down, they beat it into parts. And then they hauled the parts to the harbor and threw all those parts of Columbus, a statue in into there at Baltimore Harbor. You know, they, the mob cheered and they stood on the shore and, and how wonderful that was and well what happened is a guy named Tillman Hensley went and hired a crew recently, and I mean, within the last year or two, went and hired a crew and hired to dive crew. And they went down and recovered the parts of the statue. And so, they recovered the part of the statute. They brought it back up. He has, I'm going to call, I don't know what you call. I would say a mainstream place. But anyway, wherever they make statues and sculptures, whatever it is, where they do that, whatever kind of business you call that, they brought the parts back up and he reconstructed them back enough to be able to get a very clear image of what the statue looked like. And so, they then turned around and built a replacement statue of Christopher Columbus, 13 feet high. It's a replacement of Christopher Columbus and it just got installed. And where did it get installed? It got installed at the White House. And Trump said, yeah, we want that. And so Tim, where you and I walk into the office building and going to the white house, that is now the new location of the 13-foot-high Columbus statue and Trump said, hey, Columbus is welcome at this White House. Which is really great. So, they transported....
Rick Green [00:04:30] That's incredible.
David Barton [00:04:31] Yeah. They transported it DC, they installed it. And so, it's, it's a piece of good news that that's coming back. And I, you know, I don't want to speak out of school, but I'm, I'm telling you, what's going to happen...Tim already mentioned the fact that they're already doing statues of Moses and Paul and other statues are going to be put in D.C. at the White House. But they're doing a whole bunch of other statues as well. They are into some big-time marble statues, recovering some heroes, putting guys back up, some guys who have never had statues before in their life, but who deserve them. These guys, there's going to be a new park in D C with all these statues in it. Really, really cool. And so that's a great story. Columbus being recovered, that family going and doing that and Trump taking that and putting it at the White House, wonderful stuff.
Tim Barton [00:05:21] And Dad, one of the things too I was looking it up as you were talking. The dive crew actually went in shortly after they threw it in the water they went in on July 6, 2020. It was a group of divers there was a crew, primarily volunteers, they used cranes because the original Columbus, a statue that had been torn down was 14 feet tall and 34,000 pounds.
Rick Green [00:05:43] Wow.
Tim Barton [00:05:44] So even how they were able to even in pieces take it and go throw it in the water is kind of it, obviously don't do that, don't tear down statues don't destroy property, don't you that. But on some levels like that's kind of impressive you move thirty-four thousand pounds of these broken pieces of Columbus statue. Nonetheless the crew got in there and then everything else you're saying you so impressive. That part of the move the White House is making what President Trump is doing to honor America to kind of re-elevate some of those noted people from American history. That over the last really decade have been demonized and villainized and he's saying no let's go back and honor these people that should be honored and Columbus now being there to be honored is really great and we're gonna be there in a couple weeks. So probably we will get to see Columb.. Maybe we'll take some pictures. We'll post it on social media when we get up to have a picture by Columbus, but that is really cool.
Rick Green [00:06:42] Well, and Tim, before you give us your piece of good news, definitely want to mention the American story because, you know, some people may be listening now and going, well, wait, why is it good or why is it bad? Like I've heard bad things about Columbus, good things about Columbus. So, people that want to get the whole story and get the good, the bad, the ugly and the full truth, instead of this warped, anti-American, anti-anything to do with Western civilization or the discovery of all of that, these people that have just poisoned our education system. I mean, there's a ton of people in America that have a negative view of Columbus because they've been so lied to. So anyway, get the American Story folks. That's available at wallbuilders.com. Tim, what's up first for you?
Tim Barton [00:07:15] All right. Well, this is a article from actually, it's a week ago is when they wrote the article, but it's from, I don't know, a couple of months ago, I guess, at this time, but it is dealing with a Super Bowl, but also with Chris Pratt, Chris Prat, who very famous actor, lots of movies he's been in. But the headline says Chris Pratte Moved by Seahawks, Bold Faith, Big Masculine Men, Giving Glory to God. And one of the things that the article is highlight an interview that he was in and breaking down some of the thing that he had explained in the interview that he was actually the Super Bowl where the Seahawks defeated the Patriots. And it's first time that the Seahawks have won the Superbowl in like 12 years. That's funny, the article is like, it's the first time in 12 years and as a Cowboys fan, I'm thinking like it's only been 12 years? Like that's so short. You didn't wait very long at all. Not to digress. He talked about being able to not only be on the field but after they won the game they were invited back, Chris Pratt and his son, were invited in the Seahawk locker room. He said we got invited into the locker room and then we watched it was so amazing for me and my son to see these guys The first thing they did, they're champions of the world, the first thing they did is they got down on their knees and they gave a huge prayer and they let us join in and we joined hands. It was so wonderful for my son to see these big, masculine, grown men conquer such an amazing achievement and then immediately give the glory to God. I thought that was incredible. And the article goes on to give a few more quotes and some other details that he saw. But guys, this is one of the things that really the last several months we've talked a lot about so many athletes that have given credit to God, that have been bold in their faith, that have been clear in their faith. But also now to see such a noted actor coming out and very clearly saying that it was incredible for them to join in, because Chris Pratt's also a person of faith, and we absolutely do not recommend anybody listening and of course, probably if you listen as very long you wouldn't be doing this anyway if you're our people but those listening, we would not encourage you to look to Hollywood as examples of how Christians should live or what faith should be like. Like, don't emulate them. However, it is encouraging when you see someone of the level and status of Chris Pratt. And it's also really silly in this article in my mind. Because Chris Pratt was first on Parks and Rec, TV show, really funny. He was in lots of noted movies, but he was Guardians of the Galaxy and he's part of the Avengers. And there's so many big things he's done. But in this article, it says and he is in Super Mario as if like that's his claim to fame. Really silly. But it is cool, again, that when you have Chris Prat saying one of the things that was so cool for him and his son was, they got to participate in a team prayer. Where his son saw these incredibly big, masculine, men just giving glory and praise to God. That's really cool for lots of reasons because not just people of faith that are highlighting God and pointing people to God as incredible athletes, but also even in inviting other people to join them in prayer. Just a really cool experience and a fun article to celebrate the Seahawks praising God and inviting Chris Pratt to be part of that prayer.
Rick Green [00:10:40] Good stuff. Love it. Love it, David. We got time for another one before we go to break.
David Barton [00:10:44] Okay, guys, this one, I'm gonna start with something that I'm not, this is not the good news, but the story is that Paul Ehrlich has died and passed away. Here's my question for you guys. Who's Paul Ehrlich?
Tim Barton [00:10:59] Well, I just want to say that he actually fulfilled part of his dream for the world when he died.
Rick Green [00:11:06] One less, right?
Tim Barton [00:11:08] Yeah. So, so I know this and I know this because for decades, we have used him as an example, but Paul Ehrlich is one of the ones who really popularize this myth of how overpopulated the earth is. And what we need to do is reduce the population on the earth. And, and this was a huge deal. And Dad, you would remember this better than I would because you lived it. I've only read about it, but I feel like it was really the 60's and 70's is when this was huge push onto the 80's. And of course, it's trickled all the way forward because so much of the environmental movement has built on that. But one of the things that he really suggests, and by the way, I don't think it's just a coincidence that when you have guys like Bill Gates, who are saying that one of the things we can do through vaccines is help reduce the population on the earth. Well, how do vaccines reduce the populations on the Earth? But he's one of guys, like a Bill Gates, he really believed some of what Paul Ehrlich wrote that there's too much population, too many people on the earth. The best thing for the earth is if like the majority of humans died, that would be better for the Earth. That's what I think of Paul Ehrlich. Did I miss anything?
David Barton [00:12:19] You missed a lot, but you got the right guy. A lot of guys have no clue. This guy completely shifted their lives in the way they live, completely shifted the way we do things today. And he did it through fear. He scared the bejeebers out of people. And there's not a single thing he predicted that we know of that came right. Not a single one.
Tim Barton [00:12:40] Well, Dad, I do want to clarify that he was somewhat effective because I haven't had any bejeebers in me my whole life. So, he effectively scared them out of me. I, they're gone for sure.
David Barton [00:12:51] And is your life better now as a result of that?
Tim Barton [00:12:55] Well, probably not because of him. I just don't have any, bejeebers anymore. So, I just want to clarify that we have solved that problem. The Bejeebers are gone.
David Barton [00:13:05] Well, I had some other words I could use, but this was the socially acceptable words.
Rick Green [00:13:09] So it just fit, yeah.
David Barton [00:13:12] So he, he created so much fear in the world. He created so many fears among nations. He creates, he was the environmental doomsdayer everything is going to fall apart and it's because of humans. Humans are the cause of all problems on the earth. If we could get rid of humans, we could save the earth. And so that was his message. And he had so many different ways of delivering that. He does go back into the 60's. But one of the things, and the book he came out with that really kind of brought him to light was called "The Population Bomb". And "The Population Bomb", which came out a long time ago, predicted that if the Earth's population ever hit six billion, we would all be dead. And so, this was find any, and of course this is abortion is a good solution for this, it'll keep the population down. And as a result, here we are at 8 billion now in the world, and we have less famines than we've ever had at any point in history that that's recorded. I mean, everything he got was totally, totally wrong, but because he was this scientist guy they said, oh my goodness, he knows what he's talking about. And so, all of a sudden, we started seeing all these changes happen. And the, his statement was in the 1970s, 1980s, hundreds of millions of people will starve to death for mass famine because we'll have overpopulation. Well, guess what? We've had fewer and fewer deaths of famine over those years, and it's been declining ever since. And the population is still going up and famine, mass famines going down. You had the Great Leap Forward famine in the fifties and sixties in China, and that's kind of been it since then. He also, he also claimed that the US population, that because of all his famines, he said the US population in 1999 would be, are you ready for this? 22 million that everyone else would have starved to death and died off. And so, the American population be 20, sorry, we're 330 million now just a couple of decades later. And it was not 22 million at the time. It was over 200 million at that point in time. So, he was wrong on that prediction. In 1970, he said that that the earth was on the verge of a catastrophic marine event. Global warming was going to melt the ice caps the polar ice caps and because we're doing nothing about global warming, he said in ten years all important animal life in the sea will be extinct Oh, wait a minute this this precedes the global warming. Sorry. This is one of his catastrophes before global warming. He said in ten years all important animal live in the sea will be extinct, large areas of coastline will have to be evacuated because of the stench of dead fish. There'll be so much death in the oceans that we'll have to move away from coastlines because we won't be able to stand the smell. He also said, oh, by the way, here's one of his predictions. He also he said, if current trends continue, by the year 2000, the United Kingdom will simply be a small group of impoverished islands. Inhabited by 70 million hungry people of little or no concern to the five to seven billion inhabitants of a sick world. Sorry, none of that happened to Great Britain, not a single part of that happened.
Tim Barton [00:16:41] Although I would point out, if Great Britain continues being socialist, that they might have some of those problems, just not for the reasons he described. A little bit like New York City right now, getting to enjoy the consequences of their vote real good, and it's not what they thought. It's not more free stuff. It's actually increased taxes, wealthy people moving out, et cetera. So, socialism brings on the very results that he thought overpopulation would. Interesting correlation, both coming from terrible worldviews, but certainly, yeah, he was wrong on all those ideas of why that would happen.
David Barton [00:17:14] He's also, and by the way, the, the comment you made about Great Britain, the author of this article pointed out the same thing. They, they are having their problems, but it's not because of environmental stuff is because of stupid ideas of socialism, but not because this,
Tim Barton [00:17:29] I did not read that article. That was just draw on parallels. I just want to point out. I didn't study ahead.
Rick Green [00:17:34] Just stating the obvious.
David Barton [00:17:37] It's a logical, common-sense conclusion. You know that it should have been logical for decades. And all these scientists and professors and others got into this nonsense and just took him as gospel. And just I can't tell you how much our lives have been altered as a result of all the fear he instilled and all the things that we did as a result. He said the polar ice caps are going to melt because we're doing nothing. What we're doing in the environment is so altering the atmosphere over the earth. That the sun's rays now come through with more intensity, and therefore it's hotter. We're all going to die of high temperatures and drowning because the high temperatures will melt the polar ice caps. The polar icecaps, when they melt, it's going to raise the elevation of the ocean, some 40 to 80 feet. And so, his prediction is we're going to see massive extinction. We can expect to lose all of Florida. It'll all be underwater. All of Washington, D.C., all of the Los Angeles basin. We'll be in rising waters with no arc in sight. But every one of those major coastal cities, New York City, they're all going to die and drown because guess what? We have unprecedented expansion of the polar ice caps. They're growing at a massive rate and have been for a number of years. So Paul Ehrlich has all this stuff out there. And I thought this was one of the saddest parts of the article. They just took some various posts, this is, this is from Wall Street Journal Opinion. This guy says, "I was a college student when I read Mr. Ehrlich's "The Population Bomb". I took it to heart and now have no grandchildren, but 50 years later, the population has increased to 8 billion without dire consequences. I was gullible and stupid." And that is one of the sad, I mean, that's a eulogy for what Paul Ehrlich did for so many people. And I cannot tell you how much of what we live with today is because of all the fear that was inculcated over the last 40 years from him, even all the global warming stuff, you know, Jim Inhofe, Senator from Oklahoma fought that stuff more than anybody I know, and still so much of that global warming stuff got into the manufacturing and other stuff. It's just unbelievable.
Tim Barton [00:19:56] Well, Dad, one of the things that it reminds me of when the when Jesus told the disciples that you will know them by their fruit. You're always supposed to be fruit inspectors, see what a fruit produces. And when you look at, guys for example, a Karl Marx; what happened with Karl Marx's life and his family, the people that disowned, him that the people they committed suicide like from his own family? And when you just see what some of these things produce that this ought to be a metric for all of us as thinking people. But certainly, as Christians, and we've been given some very clear thoughts of how we should analyze things, judge the fruit, what does it produce, whether it's socialism, communism, Marxism, or this environmental stuff. It's not that we shouldn't be good stewards of the environment, but we don't need to literally throw ourselves off the cliff to save the planet. That's crazy, and yet this is certainly what we have seen been going on.
David Barton [00:20:46] So the good news with all of this is that all of these predictions were a hundred percent wrong. They've altered the way we live our lives, but they've all been proven to be false and the good news is that this stuff that's guided us for years, it's now known to be completely false. And let me kind of throw out a paradigm that everybody should adopt and use this to measure these kinds of environmental things. When God created the earth, He did so in six days, man was on the sixth day, and He put man in charge of the earth. So, what you see, Rabbi Lapin points out, creation occurred in an ascending order. So, you have the firmaments and they're separated, you separate the waters and then you have light from the darkness and you separate waters above from the waters below, and then you start having fish, and then start having birds, and you have animals, and then you have man. And he says it all is in ascending order. Man is the height of God's creation, by the way, woman is the high to that creation. Woman is created after man, even though God said woman is under man, that is that family unit. What they created, there was a family, and that's the height that God's created. So, interestingly, the environmentalists do it exactly the opposite. Man is the most expendable part, and the environment and the planet itself is what must be protected at all cost. That secular view always reverses the order of priority. The way they have it, even animals are more important than men. We will allow no animals to go extinct, but we'll kill our own species through abortion and other stuff. And so that secular worldview reverses the creation order. In God's order, the earth is the lowest level and man is the highest level and the environmentalist is secular it goes exactly opposite...
Rick Green [00:22:32] All right, guys, got to take a quick break. We'll be back with a little bit more good news before we're done today. You're listening to the WallBuilders Show. .
Rick Green [00:23:37] Welcome back to the WallBuilders Show. Thanks for staying with us on this Good News Friday. Tim, next piece of good news, man.
Tim Barton [00:23:47] Well, we're going to Hollywood, which is where we normally go for good news. There's just so many good things in Hollywood. Man, let us count the ways. And actually guys, this is not part of it, but it is a little bit of irony that Hollywood is collapsing in some ways. So many people are leaving Hollywood, the tax burdens, et cetera, that's a different program. But this one, I only know because I saw a clip of social media with this actress doing this, that the title of the article says, "I love being your mom, how best actress Jessie Buckley made motherhood Oscar's biggest winner". Now I couldn't tell you anything that happened to the Oscars ‘cause I don't think I've ever watched the Oscar's. Although was the Oscar’s where Will Smith slapped somebody like it, but I don't even know, I don't watch any of this stuff if I'm watching shows. I don´t usually watch live shows unless it's a live sporting event. I'm usually watching older TV shows that I know and I know which episodes I like and don't like and I can trust that I can skip. So, I'm the guy who's usually watching like the Monk or some old detective show, something or other. So, I don't know, I have no idea what this actress was in. But what was so cool is this actress, when she won Best Actress, got up to give a speech. And one of the reasons that I don't watch it, I'm sure many of us don't watch it is because of how woke Hollywood has been and how much nonsense they espouse when they win their awards and they want to use this for their, their posturing that they're going to virtue signal of how wonderful they are and how the world needs to change. And ironically, how we need to save the planet as they all flew in on their private jets. Right. Just so silly. What was cool though, is when she got up. Is she began praising how much she loved being married, how much she loved her children and they were everything to her. It's what it's what she lived for and she just she loved being part of a family. She wanted to I don't remember the phrase she used something like have a million babies with her husband. I mean, it was it was so cool because it was so evident that the things that that you would think you should love if you're married and you have a family, you would want a mom who loves the husband and loves the kids and this was so evident from this actress, Jessie Buckley, and again I only saw it because of social media. But it was so refreshing that somebody in Hollywood actually had a really good take, that instead of saying we should abort babies, she said no i want to have like a million babies with my husband because I love him, I love my kids, etc. So this was one good thing from the Oscars there might have been nothing else good from the Oscars. But this was really cool and kudos to Jessie Buckley for highlighting the things that really do matter.
Rick Green [00:26:28] Good news from Hollywood. That's a great way to end the program today. That's our great way to go into the weekend. Everybody have a fantastic weekend.
