The Light vs. The Darkness: Faith's Role in Modern Politics- with Congresswoman Lauren Boebert

Tim Barton, David Barton & Rick Green

Charlie Kirk's assassination has revealed a profound spiritual battle taking place in America's public square. When Congresswoman Lauren Boebert requested prayer for Kirk on the House floor immediately after the shooting, the hostile reaction from some Democrats exposed the dark reality many conservatives face in Washington today.

"The wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Democrats was absolutely abhorrent," Boebert shares in this revealing conversation. The congresswoman explains how this moment crystallized a fundamental truth: "There's only two teams. There's team good and there's team evil, there's team right and there's team wrong, and you're going to choose what team you're on."

Most troubling is Boebert's revelation that threats against her have actually increased since Kirk's death. According to the Sergeant at Arms, she now ranks among the top three most threatened members of Congress – a stark reminder of the spiritual darkness working to silence voices of truth.

Yet this episode offers more than just a sobering assessment. Boebert provides a powerful roadmap for believers navigating these challenging times. Drawing from Hebrews 12:2, she explains how Charlie Kirk served as a "pioneer" (archegos in Greek) who blazed a trail for others to follow. His legacy now empowers countless Americans to step into their own calling.

"Jesus isn't coming back for a perfected world," Boebert reminds listeners. "He's coming back for a glorious bride." This perspective frames our current cultural moment as an opportunity for the Church to rise in strength rather than cower in fear. Her practical advice to study Scripture, understand the Constitution, and be filled with the Holy Spirit offers a formula for effective engagement.

The choice before us is clear: "Choose life or death, blessing or cursing," Boebert says, "and God doesn't make us wonder which one to choose. He says choose life." Will you remain silent, or will you find your voice? The harvest is plentiful, and the need for courageous, prepared voices has never been greater.

So consider making that investment in the next generation of leadership as we raise them up. And I don't mean just the kids. I mean, this generation of leaders of all ages in every single area. You can do that by going to Wallbuilders.com and making a one-time our monthly contribution. All right, David and Tim, we've,  we got Lauren Boebert, Congresswoman from Colorado with us when we come back from the break, of course, the day, uh that, that Charlie Kirk was assassinated. There was, there was, well, there was a moment of silence in the, house chamber and,  and Lauren had asked for actual prayer and you could hear the the Democrats screaming, kind of like a gnashing of teeth like they did with Stephen, huh?

David Barton [00:01:38] Yeah, you know, it's such, it such, I don't know how to describe this, except just as inhuman and callous, because, we were in DC at the same time. And while she was over in the house, Tim and I were over the WallBuilders Pastors Briefing with the pastors, and we heard the report that he's dead. The wait, he's not, there's still a pulse, no weight. It looks like that he is in critical condition. And so we heard all these mixed reports and the same kind of thing over in a house, cause they were getting the same kinda text feeds we were. And so when Lauren actually asked, hey, he, it looks like he still has a pulse. Let's pray for him to actually have people boo and have people say, absolutely not, we're not going to pray for this guy to live where he's been assassinated. And I mean, it is just so inhuman and callous, to hate someone to that degree, I mean not even an enemy. And as a lot of people are finding out he was not the enemy they thought they were. They were told he did bad things, but that sure wasn't the case.

Tim Barton [00:02:40] Yeah, and one of the things, too, that's always a good metric in the midst of this, remembering that we are in the middle of a spiritual warfare. And I think we've talked about it some on the program. Obviously, some of our pastor friends that have been on the last couple of weeks, we've gotten into this some. But the apostle Paul very clearly writes in Ephesians six that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, that there are things beyond just the physical elements, the people that we see, there's something deeper that's happening. Obviously, we can go back and read in multiple places in scripture and it tells us that there is a devil and satan is real that there are demons those are real there are angels. Jesus talks about angels and demons this is something very clear in scripture I think a lot of times we we forget in our everyday life sometimes the spiritual realities that that do exist and i'm not trying to get in the weeds on this other than just acknowledging the bible does acknowledge as it talks about it But one of the things we know, Jesus said, The thief comes to steal, to kill, and destroy. I have come to have life and have it more abundantly. One of the things that we can see very clearly from the very beginning of creation is everything that God did, God produced life. Everything that's part of God produces life. Jesus even said that he was the vine where the branches, that in Him, we would bear much fruit apart from him. We can do nothing. Everything of God produced is life. And life is something that should be valued, celebrated, appreciated, and respected. Apart from God, the other side of the spiritual spectrum, when the pendulum swings to the other side, there's death and destruction. The thief comes to steal, to kill and destroy. And so if there are people that are applauding death and destruction, if they're applauding the negative side, there's only two teams. There's team good and there's team evil. There is team right and there is team wrong. And you're going to choose what team you're on. It's very clear what side God is on. God's light, the devil is darkness. Which also as a side note was very interesting when even Elon Musk talked about why Charlie was killed. That he was bringing light, and he was killed by the darkness. This is a very biblical, a very clear biblical imagery, and I think that was something that... You know, not to necessarily put this on everybody that was voting no, I'm not saying they were all demonic, but I will say that they were choosing the side of the devil to celebrate the death of one of God's children. And this is not to say that there's not times when we would even uphold and say that justice should be served, that if someone's done a heinous evil, they need to pay the penalty for that crime, the role of justice, what Erika Kirk did, she can totally forgive the individual, but the role government is to uphold a standard and justice in the sword. And I'm saying all of that because what was very clear in the house, what was displayed is that there were two sides and it wasn't just Republican, Democrat. There was a side of good and there was a site of evil. There was the side of light and there's a side dark. And I, I'm again saying this because we need to be more aware that the choices, the daily choices we are making, we get to choose the side with light or with darkness, with good or with evil, with God or the devil. And I am not saying that every Democrat who, you know, booed against this, voted against this idea. I'm not saying that they were willingly being demonic or the devil, but they were not choosing the side of light. They were choosing the sight of darkness and we know whose side that is.

Rick Green [00:05:59] Let's take a quick break, we'll jump over to Congresswoman Lauren Boebert. Stay with us, you're listening to The WallBuilders Show.

Rick Green [00:07:11] Welcome back to the WallBuilders Show, thanks for staying with us, our good friend Congresswoman Lauren Boebert with us. Congresswoman, thank you so much for taking time. I know it's a crazy time, but wow, the harvest is plenty and it's amazing to see what's happening. Thanks for coming on.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert [00:07:24] Yes, I am so glad you mentioned the harvest because that's exactly what I've been praying the past few days. There were millions of prayers that were offered up, and God promised that His Word does not, will not, cannot return void of power, and it will absolutely produce what it was sent to accomplish. And I believe that the harvest is massive, and we are absolutely going to reap that. For our nation, for our youth, and for generations to come.

Rick Green [00:07:56] Amen. Amen. No doubt about it. You know, and I want to come back to that certainly end our conversation on that. I got to point out some of the ugly and always talk the good, the bad and the ugly. And you know, last week, immediately after Charlie was murdered and martyred, you asked for prayer on the floor. And we were texting about the fact that it was just like the gnashing of teeth when they stoned Stephen. It was like the Democrats literally yelling at you and not wanting to even just have a moment of silence. Did that surprise you?

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert [00:08:24] Yes, so, and here's the deal, Rick, we did have a moment of silence, but in that moment, I had just received the best credible information available to me that our friend Charlie still had a pulse. And to have a moments of silence to me felt that that was not enough, that we actually needed to be praying and coming together in agreement for a miracle for my friend and so we did have that moment of silence. And I asked the speaker if I could for permission to speak out of order. I don't think he much had a choice. I was going to speak out of order, whether anyone liked it or not. But I did ask for us to collectively pray that didn't mean everyone had to pray aloud, had to even agree with the prayer or even stay in the room for the prayer. But immediately, as you pointed out, the, the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Democrats on the other side. Was absolutely abhorrent. It was disgusting and vile. And their leadership should have stepped in and said, this is acceptable. And unfortunately, that didn't happen. I had Democrats come to me right after that on the floor saying that that wasn't right, that we should have prayed. And I just thought of the cowardness that really just is all throughout our nation's capital. And so many folks. Have pledged and promised to be leaders to hundreds of thousands of constituents and then get here and are weak and apathetic and don't want to do anything that actually will be meaningful. And that's something that we see far too often on both sides of the aisle. And, you know, obviously, you we still pray, we still believe, and Charlie Kirk, his mission, his life, his name will never be in vain.

Rick Green [00:10:16] Amen. Yeah, we were doing the same thing here. It was like right when we heard he had been shot. I mean, we actually just gathered the Patriot Academy family to pray in the same way, because you don't know. And even then praying for, okay, if this doesn't, God doesn't heal, and it's not a Donald Trump moment of miraculous savings, that whatever you're going to do with it, God, that even as Charlie had said just that morning, speaking at a different deal about, you know, all things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. And as you said, that doesn't come back void. And look at how God has used it. I mean, this is absolutely amazing. Has there been, like you mentioned, the ones that came up and not apologized but said that shouldn't have happened. We've seen heart change. I've seen all kinds of videos of people from the left going, wow, I'm rethinking everything now. Have you seen any heart change from members of Congress? I mean and you don't have to name names or anything, but is there anybody that's going, wow, this so bad, this should not have, this is not the way, you don't silence civil discourse.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert [00:11:13] So Rick, I wish it went deeper than this, but certainly there are those who are mourning and understand that this shouldn't have happened. And there are some Democrats that I get along with very well, however, I have not heard any of them calling out the celebration of the assassination of Charlie, and that is what we need to see. I don't need your tears or your condolences and just a change of countenance. We need a change of direction in our nation. And we really need folks who are feeling the heaviness of what happened to actually stand up and say something and not make excuses and say, you know, as we heard from the start that hate begets hate. And if you're going to say hateful things, they'd really just hate the truth. They hate everything that Charlie stood for. It wasn't that he was speaking hate. Well, he said, well, then this is going to happen. And and those are the remarks that we need to hear our leaders on both sides call out uh you know we it's mentioned uh melissa the senator um that that was murdered earlier this year And the difference is, we didn't celebrate her death. And also they did not mourn her death in the way that we are both mourning Charlie and celebrating his life and doubling down on moving forward in that mission. I didn't see the left come out and say, this is unacceptable and we are going to do something to change. We are going move forward. They just kind of talked about it in the news cycle for a little bit. Used it as a political talking point and moved on, and this truly is a turning point, not just for the Republican Party, for conservatives, and for Christians, but our nation.

Rick Green [00:13:04] Yeah, and you know, it's such an important distinction, even in the murder of those legislators in Minnesota, was even the, you know we still don't know what that crazy guy's true motive was and what was behind it. We know in this case with Charlie, as you said, it was not even the way he was saying things, it was the truth that he was speaking. It was the fact that he always just preaching the gospel applied to issues of the day, even if he wasn't quoting a particular Bible verse. In that response to a question at these campuses, it was always literally applying the gospel, just like you do with legislation, just like we do with what we teach. And that's what people were speaking out against. And even now, and you've put up with this for all of your years in Congress, we're just now having to deal with this at Patriot Academy just a week before Charlie was killed. We started getting called Nazis, and people were saying burn down Patriot Academy and all this kind of stuff. You've dealt with that for years. When people label you that there's going to be some crazy out there that goes, well, if I could stop Hitler before he, you know, is tyrannical, I need to do that. And so when you get labeled these things,  that, that ends up in inciting,  violence out there. But where do we draw the line more? And like what, you know, this, this I think foolish comment by Pam Bondi about we're going to stop hate speech. She's clarified it today a little bit that she meant, you know inciting violence, but when you use the language of the left that we're to stop hate speech. That's just not wise. Where do you draw the line? How do we define that for people as to what's okay and what's not? And I am asking you a complicated question because there's consequences for even stupid hate speech, but it's not criminal. We're not going to put you in jail for it. How are you explaining that to people? Because you're probably getting this question for more than just me.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert [00:14:48] Yes. Well, you use the exact word that I would use to describe this and it's consequences. So we do have freedom of speech and certainly your government should not be censoring your speech. We've already established you do not have a right to incite violence, but your freedom of speach is not free of consequence. That's right. And you don't have a right to work. You don't a right be employed by a private employer. And if they look at what you are saying, if you are celebrating Charlie or saying others need to have the same thing happen to them, you know, Rick, this is something I'm seeing in my office. I mean, the calls and vile messages that come into my office have ramped up since Charlie's assassination, and that's something I never would have expected. I've been told by the sergeant-at-arms that I'm top three for targeted members of Congress. And so I would never imagine them to just intensify this, but your freedom of speech is not without consequence. And if your employer sees or hears about things that you are saying publicly, then they can assess your character and your moral value and say that doesn't fit in our narrative. But as far as-

Rick Green [00:16:07] That's a great way to describe it, yeah.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert [00:16:09] Yes, and when the government is coming in, and I'm glad you brought up the attorney general, because I did not agree with those comments, I don't even agree with the term hate speech, because that can be defined as anything. And literally, when we talk about Jesus, it can be labeled as hate speech by so many. And so it's a term that I wish we could get from and end all together. But I don't know if we're ever going to see unity. We've read the Bible, Rick, we know how things are going to get. Thankfully, in the end, we win overall, but things are going to be worse. Men will be lovers of themselves. And this is a time that we are approaching that is not going to be pretty, but Jesus isn't coming back for a perfected world. He is not coming back a spotless and blemish-less world. He's coming back for a glorious bride and He is our bridegroom is really equipping the church in this time to be that example. And I don't believe when Jesus comes back that the Christians are going to be afraid and cowering in corners, hiding behind keyboards or locked in basements. And so I believe that we are going to come out brighter, stronger, more bold, and with more influence. Charlie's truly was that Greek word archegos, which means pioneer, and he was not only an influencer, but he paved the way for others to follow. He prepared that way in the wilderness for millions to follow, and we are gonna continue down that path with that same spirit of faith. And that same spirit of faith believes our best miracles, our best blessings, our best revelations of the Word of God is yet to come. And we are going to continue until we see that.

Rick Green [00:18:07] I got to ask you before I let you go, because I just got all these new young people at the Patriot Academy campus and we're talking about how to live out the, you know, be ready to answer in 1 Peter 3.15 and speaking boldly in Acts 4.29. But I told them, I said, you've also got to go to Timothy and study to show thyself approved. And I thought about your book and your story and just, you the way you grew up and the workin' at McDonald's and the. Getting hungry for knowledge about all of these things and how you applied yourself and studied all of these things, not from some college degree perspective, but you invested the time to be able to speak to the issues of the day with the expertise that you do now took some hard work. So would you just speak to that for a minute because there's a whole crop coming up right now, not just young people, actually people older as well that are saying, I want to find my voice. I no longer want to be silent. And I want them to speak. But I also want to encourage them to be ready to answer by diving into God's Word and Constitution classes and everything else, to be knowledgeable as they have a chance to speak to the person that they're working with or with their family and everything else. And you're just a great example of that. So would you just address that for a second, challenging people to start investing in their own knowledge so that they can use their voice?

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert [00:19:21] Yes. So God says that his soul has no pleasure in those who draw back. So we cannot take a step backwards. And even in talking about Charlie, it would be dishonoring to everything that he did for us to be silent now and for us back down. And also God says, be hot or cold, if you were lukewarm I will spew you from my mouth. We've all, we, you know, you, you can like hot coffee. You can like cold coffee, but any one of us takes a swig of luke warm coffee that we think is one or the other from our mouth. Yes, it is nasty and we don't want no part of it. But now is the time to choose a side there. The middle is gone. There is no middle ground and in Deuteronomy, God lays it out I believe it's Deuteronomy twenty-eight and and and He says choose life or death blessing or cursing and and you know he doesn't make us wonder which one to choose he says, choose life, He gives us the answer right there and so now is the time for us to choose the side choose a side of life if we remain silent, I believe we lose by default. The enemy doesn't even need to do anything. We just totally forfeit our blessings and our victory by remaining silent. But Jesus gave us the ability to walk in the light as He is in the light. And that means to have complete revelation of everything that God has provided for us, all the promises of God that have their yes and amen, their yes, and so be it in Christ. When you talk about studying, if we're gonna encourage the youth on what direction to go here, first of all, read your Bible. Don't have someone else tell you what's in it.

Rick Green [00:21:03] It's saturated in it, yeah.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert [00:21:04] Yes. And if you're having a hard time finding a place to start, start with the book of John. It's the shortest of the gospels and it's all about the love of God. And then go to Ephesians, see who you are in Christ. Get that deep down x-ray view of what happened in the death, burial and resurrection and learn your place in that, the authority that you have. Be filled with the Holy Spirit so you can have that personal connection and conversation with God Himself that is uninterrupted, and the Holy Spirit will be your advocate, your guide, your helper, your counselor, your consoler, your teacher through every bit of it. And once you begin to get saturated in the Word, as you say, Rick, I encourage our youth to also read our Constitution because that is divinely inspired. And once, you know the Word of God, once you know, the rights that have been given to us in this great country, by God, that we're secured by our founding fathers. Then no one will ever be able to deceive you or or lie to you and if if you're having a hard time saying well i don't know if i can learn all that you mentioned it it wasn't through school and classes that i've learned all of this you know it was going to church on Sunday a couple extra little bible studies here and there actually getting in the word myself and and the Holy Spirit will bring to your remembrance. Everything that Jesus has done and then from there, you know, I went to Constitution Alive and the constitution was more alive than ever because I had the truth living on the inside of me.

Rick Green [00:22:38] I love it. I love. It's so good so good, and I'm stealing the coffee analogy. That's it I'll give you credit the first two times. I use it then it's mine. I'm taking it

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert [00:22:45] You got it. You own it. No copyright infringement.

Rick Green [00:22:47] Well, thank you so much keep up the great work keep being a great voice and man let's let's go get that harvest out there

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert [00:22:55] Thanks so much, Rick.

Rick Green [00:22:56] That's Lauren Boebert member of Congress from Colorado a state that we need to win back lots of good things happening in Colorado Stay with us folks. We'll be right back with David and Tim Barton  Welcome back to The WallBuilders Show, thanks to Congresswoman Lauren Boebert for joining us for the program. David and Tim, of course, you know, we know the darkness hates the light, just as you were saying, Tim, and, man, it's amazing that even a guy like Elon Musk, so even as a non-believer, he gets it, he can see what's happening.

David Barton [00:24:28] Well, you know, it's amazing to me that here she is and she asked for prayer for a guy that's dying, violent death. And now she's in the top three of threatened people in DC, or at least in Congress, the sergeant arms of Congress says that she's one of the three most targeted now with violent threats. What an amazing thing that is. And I was really, I was, really taken back with some of the Bible verses she used. I don't think. I had ever heard that thing about Christ being the pioneer force, like Christ the pioneer. And so I was looking it up as she said it, and it's out of Hebrews 12:2 where it talks about fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfect of our faith. And that word pioneer is actually trailblazer. The Jesus is the one who blazed the trail for us. He went before us. He laid it all out. And in that sense, Charlie has too, you know, maybe for the first time in a century, somebody's laying out a trail blazing a path. That we can follow and get to that will turn the nation that will turn politics, that will help families, help businesses, et cetera. And I thought that was a really good verse that Hebrews 12:2. And then the other one that she used that, that I thought was really good. She says, now's the time to choose a side. God has no pleasure in those that draw back. And that's actually Hebrews 10:38, where it says the righteous live by faith. But if he shrinks back, I take no pleasure in him. And this is not the time back up and be neutral and stay silent. This is the time to choose sides. This is a time to get out there and not back away, but to go forward, get on the office and go forward. Lauren did a really good job of bringing us some really important truths.

Rick Green [00:26:03] Yeah, it's not over, guys. I mean, we're going to see this battle going forward, but it was pretty interesting that, you know, we had such a clear for the world display at Charlie Kirk's Memorial on Sunday of what the light is like, and then we see these kinds of things and the nasty comments and all the different things from the other side about what they're like, and I think it's a clear choice. I think the American people are going to be choosing well, not only in the next few elections, but just kind of in who they hang out with, the people they associate with the things, the classes that they take. The radio programs that they listen to so yeah share the wall builder show with as many friends and family as you can they're looking for some light and we've got it for wall builders dot show to share with them thanks so much for listening to the WallBuilders Show
