Truth's Renaissance: The Coming Educational Revival in America- with Richard Harris
The battle for America's soul is being waged in our museums, national parks, and historical institutions. In this compelling episode, we expose how "woke" historical revisionism is systematically distorting our national narrative, and explore the efforts to reclaim truthful accounts of our past.
We dive deep into troubling examples like the Smithsonian's African American Museum erasing white anti-slavery advocates before the 1820s—effectively eliminating the contributions of founding fathers, Pennsylvania Quakers, and Northern colonies that legislated against slavery decades earlier. From Independence Hall tours that distract from constitutional history to Monticello presentations that vilify Thomas Jefferson, we examine how ideological agendas are reshaping American heritage sites.
Trump's recent executive order mandating a return to factual historical presentations in federally-funded institutions offers a promising path forward. Just as major universities are abandoning DEI programs to maintain federal funding, there's hope our historical institutions might similarly return to accuracy and balance.
Richard Harris joins us to discuss Truth and Liberty's upcoming awards banquet featuring Seth Gruber (creator of the 1916 Project) and honoring courageous individuals like Abby Johnson and Lt. Colonel Theresa Long. This event exemplifies the growing counter-movement dedicated to historical truth and constitutional education.
We wrap with a fascinating discussion of presidential term limits, analyzing Trump's provocative "third term" comments as a masterful example of political trolling that's actually driving Americans back to studying the Constitution. Join us as we explore how reclaiming our historical narrative is essential to preserving our republic's future.
Rick Green [00:00:07] Welcome to the intersection of faith and culture. Thanks for joining us today on the WallBuilders show, taking on the hot topics of the day from a biblical, historical and constitutional perspective. And it's hard to keep up with all the hot topics of the day, so much happening all over the country, not just in Washington, DC, but at the local level and state elections, uh, just a lot of stuff going on. So we'll try to rapid fire, get through a few things. Then we got Richard Harris with us later in the program from a Charis Bible college. So we will talk about some of the things they're doing there as well. Rick Green here with David and Tim Barton. Guys, so much to catch up on. You pick which of the many topics we can talk about do y'all want to try to cover today.
David Barton [00:00:40] You know, a good one is, another action that Trump has taken. And this one relates to the national parks and things like Smithsonian museum and et cetera, and that's to get the woke presentation of history out of that. I don't want to say the woke history, but there is no woke history. I mean, it's history, but the woke present ation of history, which distorts everything and tries to tear down heroes and, and put junk in there. He said, no, no. No, we're not doing that. And this is something we've been concerned about. I'm going to say for, I don' know, 20 years, maybe. before woke was really in vogue, we saw things starting to change. I know Tim, when they opened the African American museum, the Smithsonian museum in DC, you went to that early on and it was so abominably wrong on the simplest facts. You know, some of this, what was it you saw in there? You remember?
Tim Barton [00:01:26] Yeah, I actually still have screenshots, and the screenshots is relative. I would say pictures of their displays with my phone, so I don't know why I said screenshots, but yes, I took many pictures going through there. And some of the things- Wait, do you-
Rick Green [00:01:40] Wait, these were shots that made you scream? Or these were, oh, screen shots. I got you.
Tim Barton [00:01:45] I saw them on the screen of my phone and took a picture. I, you know, guys, I probably just the nature of what we do running all the time. There's many days that we are operating on very few hours of sleep. And it feels like I'm in that moment right now. I'm grateful you guys are here to help balance out the silly things that potentially will come out of my mouth. But what I do remember, I still have them in my photos on my phone. It was just appalling in so many areas. For example, They did not identify a single white person that was anti-slavery until the 1820s, and kind of the way they presented it was black people were fighting against the slavery movement, but there was no white person who was against slavery until the 1820s, which is just a crazy thought that you're ignoring so many of the pro-abolition individuals, the anti- slavery individuals from the founding fathers, but even going back to like the Pilgrims. Going to the Quakers of Pennsylvania as you go through some of these very noted historic Things that happen even legislatively in the late 1600s not legislatively, but like societies in this situation. There was a society Anti-slavery society formed by Quakers in the later 1600s, but but I mean you go though there were these movements there was actually legislation in many states abolishing and banning slavery in the North the Northern colonies and New England States. And so for the Smithsonian to say, well, really it wasn't the 1820s that any white people were against slavery. They're being very dishonest in the way they're presenting it. Even with, there was a, a section of Abigail Adams, communicating with John Adams and they actually made it this, notion, the founding fathers were anti-women and anti-black because there was this one letter from Abigail. where she identified a problem she saw with the way that women were treated was similar to the way that slaves were treated, et cetera. And all of this again, it's just a very dishonest representation of some noted individuals like John and Abigail Adams, who were very anti-slavery. It was one of the situations walking through where you can see clearly the people who are doing this have a bias. Clearly their bias is against America. Clearly their biased was influenced by the 1619 project that America was birthed on slavery, was built on slavery. That the founding fathers were by and large these really racist, evil individuals, et cetera. And the fact that this is a Smithsonian museum and we're not even trying to talk about any of the historically documented factual things of the anti-slavery movement that growth the fact that There was no political movement in the world against slavery where we're actually political leaders of a nation were fighting to end slavery freeing their own slaves starting this movement that that didn't happen until the founding fathers of america This is the first place a major political movement like that took place and again, they ignored all of it and that's just one example, and I can go back and, and look at those pictures and see how egregious it was. I have not been back since then, so it's possible it's unlikely, but it's possible it has gotten better, but just given the nature of the institutions we know from government run, organizations, but even government run, historic societies or parks, we know they have not done a good job just based on the other places we have been, and this is just one example of that.
David Barton [00:05:15] And even with that, Tim and the Museum of African-American History, I mean, try to find an African- American early on that's not a victim, like a Wentworth Cheswell, who was early elected by a white community among the founding fathers in 1768 and was reelected for 49 years, or a Thomas Hercules who elected in 1793 from white community, or all the battles in the American Revolution where not just blacks fought, but blacks were heroes, genuine heroes in those battles. And you're just not going to find that portrayal in there. It's all victimization and it's all that, that woke kind of stuff. But even as you were mentioned national parks, Tim, I mean, Rick, you were telling us the story of an independence hall. So some of your folks who went there and couldn't even get to the story because of what happened before the story started.
Rick Green [00:06:01] Well, imagine if you're being shown around independence hall. I mean, here's the room or the assembly room there where, you know, the declaration was done, the constitution Lincoln stopped by and get, gave that impromptu speech on his way to be present. He's so much great history there, but what are your kids when you're driving away, talk about the bearded lady, the guy dressed in a dress with a beard and lipstick giving the tour. I mean what a shame guys. What a distraction from the history. And so, yeah, there's just a lot of Uh, and, and these coaches that emailed me, this was, I guess, about three, maybe four or five weeks ago. Um, they were just devastated. You, they had been so excited because, you know, they took the class from us and they, they learned about the constitution and they saw us teaching in that room and they were so excited to take their family there. And, um, so that, yeah, it's, it' bad, man. It's so, it so woke. It's exactly what Tim was describing. And, and that's kind of worked its way through so many of these national parks and so many, these wonderful national treasures. our prayer is that you know with Donald Trump's taking back a lot of ground at the federal level that this is one of the things we can take back as those national treasures and his executive order really stakes out some good ground on this.
David Barton [00:07:07] Well, you know, kind of this is second or third degree of separation, but I've been absolutely amazed at the number and the level of really traditionally historic universities that are top tier universities that are now kicking the DEI out because they want to keep the federal grants. And Trump said you don't get a federal grant if you're doing DEI and the woke stuff. But Columbia University being one of them now, the University of Michigan. Now those are two major big universities that turn out a lot of students and they're going to walk away from woke because they want the money and Trump's not gonna give the money if you're gonna do woke. But I say that because out of those institutions come a lot people that would be at the expert level. They have their PhDs, they have whatever. And we're seeing those kinds of people even get into the private sector. Whether if you go to Monticello, which is Jefferson's home and I used to love going to Montacello. There's so much cool there. Uh, the inventions that Jefferson made and just what he did, absolutely phenomenal, but you can't go there now without coming away, hating Jefferson. And you know, it's just, how can you hate the guy who is maybe responsible for the entire philosophy, who is one of the leading anti-slavery guys in Virginia at a time when it sure wasn't popular and then you look at what's happening even in in places like Plymouth. Our friends up in Plymonth, there are historians up there talking how the Plymuth now is going woke with the pilgrims or that how when you go to Williamsburg, in Williamsburg they now have Lesbian Day in Williamsberg to show how lesbians lived in Williamsburger. Sorry, it was against the law back then to be homosexual or lesbian and their only example of lesbans are two girls that live together in the same room. Well, we used to do that at dorms and it wasn't anything about lesbians, you know, just because you have a female roommate and so they're just determined to twist history into what they want. And so that's why Trump's executive order that he's done saying we're going to clean up the presentation of history and go back to really something that we all used to be proud of for centuries in America. That is something really, I think, that has long-range impact. on what America, and if America gets healthy in this generation, which we think we have a chance now because of what's happening, whether we stay healthy in the next generation is gonna depend on the kind of knowledge we put in the young people in this generation, and we now have an opportunity to start putting good knowledge in again, but going back and cleaning up these national institutions and institutions that receive federal money and get them to start telling the truth about history.
Rick Green [00:09:39] We say it a lot here on wall builders. You know, we can't expect Trump to do it all, but he can stake out that ground and then we can do hard work in our communities. There's a lot of great organizations that are doing that education that you're talking about. And I was thinking the other night, about what a renaissance is and how it's defined as being a time of, of intellectual vigor, like significant, like digging in, whether it's artistic or intellectual, there's, there's a vigor there to, and so I'm, I'm hoping that that's going to happen here. A lot of these things are causing people to dig a lot deeper. And so we work with a lot of great organizations out there. Charis Bible College, you guys designed a government school for them so that that that deep knowledge can be taught and that truth and that history can be taught. They're doing a fantastic job and they have an organization, Truth and Liberty, that's out there engaging people. Richard Harris runs that and and it's going to be with us when we come back from the break to catch us up on some of the things that they're doing. So stay with us, folks. We'll be right back on The WallBuilders Show.
Rick Green [00:11:39] Welcome back to the intersection of faith and culture. Thanks for staying with us here on the WallBuilders show. Richard Harris back with us from Truth and Liberty. Richard, always good to have you brother. Thanks for coming on.
Richard Harris [00:11:47] Hey Rick, good to be with you!
Rick Green [00:11:49] Hey, looking forward to seeing you guys, at least for a few minutes, when I come up there for Flashpoint, but right after that, after I fly back, y'all have an amazing event that's gonna be taking place. Got Seth Gruber coming in, and Andrew, of course, will be there. You'll be there, it's gonna an awesome night, and we wanted to tell people about it, because we got a lot of coaches around Colorado, and actually some folks are gonna be coming in from all over the country for this event, but excited for you guys. We wanted to get your update on it.
Richard Harris [00:12:15] Yeah, man. Well, so it's Friday, May 2nd. We are going to have our third annual Truth and Liberty Awards banquet. And that's going to be at Charis Bible College. And it'll the Wednesday and Thursday before that is Flashpoint live from Woodland Park, our campus there. And then so Friday night, we'll have our banquet, our awards banquet. It's going be a great night. Seth Gruber. You know, he's the author and creator of the 1916 project. And I don't know if you've seen that, Rick, but that is a
Rick Green [00:12:46] Oh man, yeah, we had a big showing and, and, did it for the whole coaches all over the country and then we watched it here at the campus and, Oh bro, so good. Really, really good.
Richard Harris [00:12:56] Yeah, it's amazing. And then, uh, Seth's going to be the keynote speaker and we're going to be recognizing Abby Johnson, who was excellent former clinic director of Planned Parenthood and, another hero that most people probably don't know about Lieutenant Colonel Teresa Long, who, is a flight surgeon in the United States army and she stood up against the mandatory vaccine from the Biden, you know, DOD, uh and stood up for the, our soldiers and their rights of freedom of conscience. So, we're gonna recognize them and have some live entertainment and it's gonna be awesome.
Rick Green [00:13:28] And, and by the way, for anybody that is not familiar with Abby's story, also a movie about her and her whole story, but she's, you know, become just such a great champion for life. Someone that had, you now, having seen it firsthand in a Planned Parenthood clinic and anyway, just really powerful story. So that's going to be cool. And y'all are giving her the Samuel Adams award for courageous Christian leadership. Very cool. And then, um, you know, even just a, honestly, Richard, anytime you can get together with the other folks that are out there on the front lines, that are, they're working hard to preserve liberty and to restore biblical values, you, come away from an evening like that fired up and ready to get, get back in the fight. So I think folks, if they, especially if you're coming in for Flashpoint, definitely book your flight to stay over and get that extra day. Or if you drive and you know, get that day and go to this dinner. What if, is it too late or can you get tickets? I should have asked you that right from the beginning.
Richard Harris [00:14:20] Oh no, it's not too late. Yeah, people can just go to our website at truthandliberty.net and get tickets and also check out sponsorship information. This is a fundraiser for us, so.
Rick Green [00:14:32] Yeah, and Richard, I was going to ask you about that. So for Truth and Liberty, I mean, you guys are, this isn't a one-night thing. You guys are out there year-round educating people, getting people involved, you're fighting for Liberty. What would be, if somebody can't come to the dinner, what's a good way for them to connect with you and things they can do with you as well?
Richard Harris [00:14:51] Well, thanks for asking that, Rick. Yeah, folks can go on our website, subscribe, and that way you'll start getting all of our emails and, you know, action alerts and articles and blogs and that kind of thing. But also, if you want to be a part of what God's doing through us, just sign up to be member. You can be a member for just $5 a month or more, and we emphasize the or more part. But yeah, be a truth and liberty member and help us, you know, along with great organizations and leaders like you and David Barton and so many others, just trying to turn America back to our Godly foundations. And we're seeing great things happen. So we're really excited about the future. And this awards banquet is kind of a kickoff for sort of the groundwork for the year us as we're going to be, you know, covering Colorado in these school board elections. And, uh, looking forward to flipping those districts to conservative control. It's going to be a great year and then getting ready for 2026, which I think is going to a phenomenal year politically speaking. And, so yeah, things are looking good.
Rick Green [00:15:56] Man, I could agree with you more. And you and Andrew have just, I mean, what y'all do with truth and liberty is so important and this is, um, you know, it's a lot of times people will say, well, what can I do? How can I get involved? This is exactly one of those ways you can get involved. And, and, I, I have the same optimism as you. I mean even with all the good stuff that's happening right now. So, hey, we're just scratching the surface, man. I really think God's about to do a huge turnaround in our country and we get to be a part of that. And so people go to truth and Liberty. truthandliberty.com and is it .com or .org? Sorry, I might have that wrong.
Richard Harris [00:16:28] Oh, it's okay. It's dotnet.
Rick Green [00:16:31] dot net. Okay. I was totally wrong. I was even in the universe. I got both of mine were right. truth and liberty.net. I was looking at the awards, uh, signup and it had a.com on the end, but first go to truth and Liberty.net and then when you, uh, right there on the page, you can click to, uh click through to the, uh the dinner, um, tickets and then, but even if you can't go, even if it can't go to the dinner and you can do a ticket, you can still make a contribution online. You can still help them make this a wonderful evening, but also become a part of truth and liberty. And Richard, I'm thinking, too, I mean, you mentioned Colorado and the elections that you guys have there, but your impact is beyond Colorado. I mean Caris Bible and Andrew Womack Ministries reaches people all over the world, and you're helping to make them, you know, teach them to be good citizens in addition to, you know, sometimes we separated that citizenship responsibility from our faith responsibility, but they're one and the same. It's part of our life, and the Lord's Lord over all those things. So y'all are doing a great job of training people on how to be citizens, just like We're doing it at WallBuilders and Patriot Academy.
Richard Harris [00:17:28] Yeah, absolutely. Well, you know, the School of Practical Government at Charis, which, you know, I get to direct, is built on David Barton's teaching, his life work and everything. He helped us build it. And of course, Patriot Academy, you, you know, are a big part of that too. So yeah, it's an honor for me to say that I'm in the fight with you guys and it's just awesome. And yeah, we've got our graduates are really all over the country now, as are yours, you know beginning to make a difference stand up and I think years of sowing seed and hard work is paying off as we're seeing America turn. I think it's a great time to be alive, actually.
Rick Green [00:18:08] Yeah, I think that's an important point for us to remember these things that are happening right now from everything from, you know, the Trump administration is doing to a lot of these victories, the local level that did not happen by accident that had just come out of thin air. It was years and years of sowing into the culture and being engaged of, of literally, you know, living out your mandate, educating, unifying, and mobilizing people and getting them involved. It doesn't happen by accident, takes hard work and, and that our causes is, is certainly just, and our work is not yet done. So this is just, like I said, the beginning of, of what I think is going to be a great harvest. And, and we need you guys to be strong in order to have the people that can be a part of that harvest out there. So truthandliberty.net truthandliberty.net is the website to go to and learn more, get signed up and become a part. Richard, God bless you, man. I know you're running as fast as we are. So I just pray for God's blessings on you and your family, on the ministry, and I wish I could be with y'all on May 2nd. I know y' all are gonna have a fantastic night, and just thrilled to have you on to talk about it.
Richard Harris [00:19:09] Well, thanks, Rick. Thanks for having me. And, you know, you're going to be out with us for flashpoint. So if anybody who can make that too, it's going to be a great week. So looking forward to it.
Rick Green [00:19:18] Perfect opportunity to spend a few days in beautiful Colorado. And if you've never been out to Charis Bible College or Andrew Wommack Ministries and seen the place out there, it is phenomenal. It is absolutely gorgeous. Just, I love seeing what God's doing out there. And we've had a lot of Charis bible college students come our way and, and do Patriot Academy stuff. We've had Patriot Academy graduates go out there to Charis. I was just talking to somebody the other day, Richard, that has decided that's, you know, they've decided that's where I'm supposed to be. I'm going, it's just exciting to see all those things. So it really is a great opportunity. So April, let's see, what is it? 30th May 1st and May 2nd, you know, make the trip out there, spend all three nights at, at the campus. And, you'll get to be a part of some really cool stuff. And it's just good fellowship. I'm telling you, there's something about coming together. You're like coals heating up and then you go back into your communities and, and lead the way. So man, well, I'll see you for a little bit on the 30th and then y'all have a fantastic dinner on the second.
Richard Harris [00:20:11] Alright man, we're looking forward to it.
Rick Green [00:20:13] That's Richard Harris, Truth and Liberty. Stay with us, folks. We'll be right back with David and Tim Barton
Rick Green [00:21:25] Thanks for staying with us, thanks to Richard Harris for joining us and the good work they're doing out there at Andrew Wommack Ministries, Truth and Liberty, Carus Bible College, lots of great things going on, and a lot of folks that are learning the Constitution actually teach our biblical citizenship.
David Barton [00:21:38] class when they do that as well. You know it's great what they do because they have done and we called it the school of practical government because we wanted to be practical not theoretical like so many government schools are you know the JFK school and all these others. We wanted this to practical which is why they do Patriot Academy and go through Patriot academy training. That's why they work with WallBuilders. They go to Washington DC with us for pastor's briefings other things to see how it all works and even truth and liberty what they did with their voters guide, I mean, 78 school board seats flipped as a result of what they did in Colorado. So that's a group that's really getting it done and doing some great work. It's just really good to see them be a practical school of government, teaching these kids how to run for office if they want to, but in the meantime, just be able to affect government.
Tim Barton [00:22:22] Well, and one of the things we do to make it practical, as we actually study original documents, we study the Constitution. And guys, I know we're almost out of time on the program, but I think it's worth acknowledging, as we are studying the Constitution, we've talked about President Trump being one of most Constitutional presidents we've seen with executive orders, so many things. One of the most Constitutional we've seen in our lifetime. And I love the fact that he hinted recently at the idea, hey, maybe I'll just, you know, be president for a third term. and people's minds are exploding, right? You can't do that. And it would be a great irony, right, if the guy we're saying is one of the most Constitutional does something that clearly is different. And we have a lot of thoughts on this. First of all, I think this is one of the greatest trolls ever. We talk about how Trump will play like 4D chess and you know, he's the master magician where he's like, hey, watch my hand over here. And then with his other hand, he's doing something quite significant. He does such a good job of giving cover for so many of the people in his administration, so much of his team for Congress, for states. And certainly I think this is what a lot of this probably is, but just as a quick refresher Constitutionally, president FDR, he was elected four times as president, four terms. He died early on in his fourth term. So it didn't actually serve a full four terms where Harry Truman came in. And it wasn't long after that, that the people that Congress was like, you know, that that's probably too many. And this is what led to the 22nd amendment, which is that you can only be elected two terms or if you were example, Harry Truman, a vice president and somebody dies, you can come in. But if you've served for more than two years as in one term as a president, then you can be elected one more time. So you can all be elected twice as president. The 12th amendment has requirements for vice president. Cause one of the thoughts is, well, what if JD Vance is running as president and he can run as vice president? Well, it actually, the 12th amendment says that you can only run for vice president if you're eligible to be president, but here's what's interesting. If we're talking about eligibility, we would say, well, clearly he's not eligible. Well, this is where the fun nuance comes in. And again, this just like a troll level, but where Trump says, you know, there are ways. Well, if he's running for vice president, he's no eligible to be elected for president. But if he is not elected for President, he's elected for vice President. It doesn't say he's eligible for President. He's not to be eligible to be elected for president, or let's even go further, because let's say, okay, he can't be vice president or president. But what about the Speaker of the House? If he's chosen speaker of the house, which you don't even have to be a member of Congress to be the Speaker of The House. And then the vice president, the president are both incapacitated for whatever reason, he could be promoted to the president and he was not elected. Well, so then he's not elected to a third term. And again, like it violates the spirit of the 22nd amendment. So we're not supporting this. But this is where the fun troll is where Trump's like, well, there's a way. Look, none of us think Trump is actually trying to run for a third term. We think this is just the way to.
Rick Green [00:25:26] Wait, Tim, Tim are you saying I have to cancel my order? I already ordered some Trump Vance 2028 signs. I'm going to put a big bumper sticker on the back of my truck just to make people... I'm sorry.
Tim Barton [00:25:37] You already embroidered like number 48 in?
David Barton [00:25:40] Look, when I see Trump do that third term, I'm reminded of a commercial from 15 years ago, Kibbles and Bits, if you remember that dog food, and the guy would hold a piece up in the air and the dog would jump for it and just try to get the... It's like Trump's holding that third term up and trying to get these knotheads to jump for it. It's just hilarious to watch.
Rick Green [00:26:00] My favorite part was the reporter asking him about Obama doing a third term and Trump was like, I would love that race me against Obama. He was an instantly. I could see him in an octagon cage fight, but, but I think it is great for him to get people thinking. Look at all the bad policies that came out of Obama and Biden and look at all the good stuff coming out of Trump. So just keep thinking like that, folks.
Tim Barton [00:26:19] Well, one of the things too, it's one of my favorite things about trolls or the trolls from Trump, is it actually makes people go back and read what the constitution says. Amen. The greatest thing that his trolls are making people steady history. I love this guy.
Rick Green [00:26:33] So good. We'll speak into the Constitution tomorrow as Foundations of Freedom Thursday. So send your questions in to radio at Wallbuilders.com and we'll see you tomorrow for Foundations of Freedom. Thursday. You've been listening to The WallBuilder Show.
