Welcome to the Intersection of Faith and Culture. It's the Wall Builders Show, where we're taking on the hot topics of the day from a biblical, historical and constitutional perspective. I'm Rick Green, america's Constitution Coach, and I'm here with David Barton and Tim Barton. Tim's a national speaker and pastor and president of Wall Builders. David, of course, america's premier historian. If you haven't read a book by David Barton or listened to a program or watched one of his video recordings, you are missing out.
Speaker 1I was just telling a group in Oregon, of all places yes, that's right, we go speak all over the country, even on the left coast. I know we got a lot of listeners out there. I'm just messing with y'all. But Oregon gorgeous, so pretty out there, oh, we had a great time. My daughter went with me in the Oregon homeschool convention. We got to speak I don't know six times and had a great time with everybody.
Speaker 1And I was just telling them how I hated history growing up. I just I had no interest in history or government. It was boring, it was just memorizing dates and names. And David Barton man somebody gave me a cassette tape that's how old I am of. David Barton man, somebody gave me a cassette tape that's how old I am of David Barton all those years ago and it just it woke me up. I mean I could see history through the eyes of the people that lived it because of the way he tells the stories Just absolutely incredible. That's why, that's part of why he's America's premier historian. The other reason is just the largest private collection of Founding Fathers documents in the world. I mean, when you have the originals that you're teaching that history from, first of all you know you're getting accurate history, not some revised history that the left has done in America, but also you're able to make it more fun, make it more entertaining and interesting, and that's why going through the Wall Builders Museum is something else you need to consider doing. So check all that out at wallbuilderscom today. David and Tim actually not with me today because we're going to go back to the Pro-Family Legislators Conference today If you heard yesterday's program, you heard Rob McCoy, pastor Rob McCoy, thousand Oaks, california, godspeed Calvary Chapel.
Speaker 1There it's actually where we filmed the biblical citizenship class, and so for the million or more of you out there that have been through the biblical citizenship class, you know who Rob is.
Speaker 1You've seen him there in week one and sprinkled throughout the course. And then, of course, we've had Rob on the radio program many times over the years, just a great friend to wall builders and leading the way out there as a black-robed regiment kind of pastor I mean, somebody that definitely is biblically sound, culturally engaged, doing the things needed that our nation desperately needs right now and helping to wake up our country. So anyway, yesterday was Rob the first part of his presentation speaking at the Pro-Family Legislators Conference, which is where all these state reps and senators get to hear from great speakers like Rob, and we shared the first half of that yesterday. So now we're going to jump right back in to where we left off yesterday and get the rest of it. And if you missed yesterday, a lot of times people just tune in right in the middle of the program no worries, everything's available right now at wallbuildersshow. But we're going to take a quick break. When we come back we'll be picking up where we left off yesterday with Rob McCoy at the Pro Family Legislators Conference.
Speaker 2Hey, this is Tim Barton from WallBuilders and this is an alert for all educators out there, all teachers. If you listen to our program, you've heard us talk about the brokenness of the education system and even though there are great teachers and principals and superintendents and there's good people in the public education system, the system itself is very broken. You can go back really to when progressives start taking over, the early 1900s and the philosophy, the pedagogy of education changes and it's brought a very different outcome in education and, honestly, even a lot of that philosophy has infiltrated a lot of Christian schools, a lot of private schools. Well, every summer we give educators, teachers, principals, superintendents, even college professors, the opportunity to come and have an immersive hands-on experience in education. We take three days actually, in June 24th through 26th and June 27th through 29th, for teachers to come and have a hands-on experience, see what education used to look like, see maybe what we should return to. If you are interested, go to wallbuilderscom and look for our teachers conference. Hope to see you this summer. This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders, with another moment from American history.
Speaker 2Many today assert that religion is something private, that it has no place in the public square and that it is incompatible with government. But the founding fathers believed exactly the opposite. They held that religion was absolutely necessary in order to maintain our free system of government. Absolutely necessary in order to maintain our free system of government. For example, john Adams declared we have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion, and signer of the Declaration, benjamin Rush, similarly affirmed Without religion there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all Republican governments. The Founding Fathers understood that limited government required public morality from the people and that public morality was produced by the Christian religion. For more information about the Founding Fathers'. Views on religion and public life, go to wallbuilderscom.
Speaker 3At one point, four of the ten largest churches in the United States were Calvary chapels. So how does that change the state of California? Because in 1968, we had the fifth largest GDP. Well, here we are 2023, 10,000% growth.
Speaker 3Preaching the gospel, I throw the net out every Sunday. If you believe the death, burial and resurrection of Christ and you confess with your tongue Jesus is Lord, you will be saved. The glory of the Father, amen. Raise your hand if you want to receive Christ. God bless you. God bless you. God bless you. Come on forward. I'm going to give you a Bible. Do do that.
Speaker 3Every Sunday, our church has baptized more people in 18 months than the attendance of the church was 18 months ago because we stayed open. These are Mormons and atheists and Jews and agnostics. I remember one guy, an atheist. He had the gun store in town and I was on the council and I helped open the very first gun store in Thousand Oaks. We witnessed and ministered to him, helped build his store out. He didn't understand why. I said we can't have the First Amendment without the Second, and when they came after us and they named me and a thousand congregants or visitors, they were going to put us in jail and padlock our door and I was brought before the judge on contempt charges and they gave us $3,000 fine. Every time the doors of the church were open and it was just mockery and I was on the front page and all that. I'm the guy killing grandma.
Speaker 3And the pushback from the Christian community was tragic. I couldn't believe in Texas, where you had a governor, let you open your church and you didn't Really what is that? And you're defending and you're upset with me. That's okay, I'm from California, bring it on. I don't understand freedom that's not exercised. Liberty is like muscles you don't exercise it, you lose it. I was wondering where are they? And as we're facing this, this gun store owner comes down that day and when I showed up at the church, there were people from all over the country that surrounded our church saying we'll take the citation. You worship in peace. That's America. And the gun store owner was holding up a sign and I'm going to be crass and I'm going to say a cuss word here because it's so apropos. The sign said it took this to get this atheist to church. He's in the second row every Sunday and he's given his heart to Christ. But the laws of wise restraints that make men free. The opposite is true. You see, moses stood and he exercised truth and honored God.
Speaker 3The ten plagues came. Pharaoh relented and let the Israelites go, and he realized he was losing his slave economy. After the plague of the Passover and the angel of death, and as the Israelites were leaving Egypt with all their wealth and possessions, pharaoh didn't want to lose his slave economy, so he sent his entire army after them. The Israelites were pinned between two mountain ranges and the Red Sea in front of them and the entirety of the Egyptian army behind them, and once again, the people who wanted freedom began to complain to the leader which legislative. You know what that means somebody doesn't get their way. They're, they're angry at you. I voted for you, thank you, makes me your slave. Can I come wash your car? And now you're at a state level, it's a little easier, mayor. They all show up. Like you do need to wash my car.
Speaker 3And so moses cries out to god god parts the red sea. Israelites get through in complete light. Egyptians are in abstract darkness, they're drowned. They get into the wilderness, which is a generous way of saying desert, and it's there that God provides water every day. Where there isn't Manna every day, food where there wasn't. They whine about quail or meat and they blow quail off course so that meat's coming out their nostrils. Their shoes don't wear out for 40 years, their clothes don't wear out for 40 years.
Speaker 3Miracle after miracle, after miracle after miracle. But here's the greatest miracle of all time Moses goes up on Mount Sinai and he gets a downloaded moral app. God says take that and instruct the children and their children, place it in the center of the community. Commanded. Why? Because from the moral law comes civil law. The law will either be the wise restraints that set you free or you remove the moral law and it becomes a weapon to enslave you, like they're doing in California. To enslave you like they're doing in California. Matthew 16, jesus says to his disciples, after the miracle of the loaves and fishes feeding thousands with a small luncheon of a little boy, and as they're departing the region, jesus says beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. And also adding, based on Mark 7 and 8, he says and of Herod, levin, sin, pharisees, sadducees, two religious orders, conservative, liberal, legalists. You know those are the Sadducees and the Pharisees, and then Herod. So you have the king and you have the priestly class.
Speaker 1All right guys got to take another break. I got to interrupt Rob for just a second. It's easy to interrupt Rob when it's just a recording of Rob. If Pastor McCoy was here it'd be a little harder, because he talks almost as fast as David Barton when he wants to, and he's a pretty tough guy too, but he's only on recording, so hey, I get to interrupt him. Anyway, quick break, We'll be right back. You're listening to the Wall Builder Show.
American Faith and History Exploration
Speaker 2Hi friends, this is Tim Barton of WallBuilders. This is a time when most Americans don't know much about American history or even Hebrews of the faith, and I know oftentimes for parents we're trying to find good content for our kids to read and if you remember, back to the Bible, to the book of Hebrews, it has the Faith Hall of Fame where they outlined the leaders of faith that had gone before them. Well, this is something that, as Americans, we really want to go back and outline some of these heroes, not just of American history, but heroes of Christianity and our faith as well. I want to let you know about some biographical sketches we have available on our website.
Speaker 2One is called the Courageous Leaders Collection and this collection includes people like Abigail Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Francis Scott Key, George Washington Carver, Susanna Wesley, even the Wright Brothers, and there's a second collection called Heroes of History. In this collection you'll read about people like Benjamin Franklin or Christopher Columbus, Daniel Boone, George Washington, Harriet Tubman, Friends. The list goes on and on. This is a great collection for your young person to have and read and it's a providential view of American and Christian history. This is available at wallbuilderscom. That's wwwwallbuilderscom. That's wwwwallbuilderscom.
Speaker 1Welcome back to the Wall Builder Show. Rob McCoy speaking at the Pro-Family Legislators Conference today. We're going to jump right back in.
Speaker 3Here's Rob, and you know 6,000 years of recorded history, priests and kings have tried to enslave humanity with their hocus-pocus and their draconian tyrannical measures. Because, with the exception of a small blip in time of this constitutional republic, most governments in the history of the world have been oligarchies, where the few rule the many. Whether it's fascism, communism, socialism, any-ism, the few rule the many. But in America, our founders decided to say this is going to be a bottom-up form of government. I'm going to place the power in the hands of the people. I will make them the sovereign. The first three words of the preamble of the Constitution. We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, do ordain and establish. You are the sovereign and I will give you representatives who will govern by your permission, but they will be constrained by the seven articles of the Constitution. That Constitution doesn't give them any rights. It protects the rights I've given to my people.
Speaker 3There will be 27 amendments. The first 10 are critical, but the first one is of utmost importance. Not an oligarchy in America. You are in a very unique, gifted place. If someone comes and seeks my endorsement in my area, I ask them three questions. I say name the 10 commandments, because if you can't do that, every civil law you're going to enact is going to come from the absence of the moral law. How many articles are in the Constitution? Name them. And if you can't, that's the only thing that protects me from you stealing my authority. I constrained you. You don't know it. Why in the world are you swearing to defend it? Got quiet in here. And then, secondly, how many amendments are there?
Speaker 3You see, in the founding of this country, when they established the people as the sovereign, they gave them the ability to elect only one body of government. After three days of fasting and prayer, divided on how to represent the states, they finally decided on a bicameral legislator, an upper house and a lower house. And the lower house was the only one that the people would elect the House. The House would appoint the Senate from their state and the Electoral College would establish the presidency. The president would appoint the judiciary. So the judicial branch was appointed by the president, president of the electoral college. The Senate was appointed by the House and the House was elected by the people.
Speaker 3But they gave the lower house a great, great power. They held the purse strings, they had the money, the eloquence of our birth certificate, when, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal down by their creator, with certain inalienable rights, among those being life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That order, because if you don't have life, liberty and happiness are scarce, little value. Happiness is not a feeling. Happiness is the highest virtue, it's the highest good. That cup right there is a good cup because it's doing what it was designed to do. It's holding liquid. It'd be bad if it was leaking. It's doing what it was created to do. What were you created to do? That's when you have obtained happiness. In him is the fullness of joy, life. He's a God of life.
Speaker 3Liberty what's liberty? The apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians stand fast, therefore, in the liberty for which Christ has set you free. You know where he wrote that Prison. Liberty is doing what's right. Freedom is having choices. You do what's right. You'll have choices, maybe not you, but certainly your kids and your grandkids.
Speaker 3A nation grows great whose citizens plant trees of the shade. They'll never know. Put that in your pocket, think about it later. And so they give this branch of government the power of the purse established in the eloquence of their birth certificate and the beauty of the preamble of the constitution, which defines their government and constrains them in the articles. And then they give the first amendment. That first amendment's not poetic, it's caustic and angry.
Speaker 3Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Don't you dare get in the way of man worshiping God ever period. You agree? I'm not asking for anyone to stand, but the point is this Don't get in the way of that and defend it. I mean, create the image of God. Governments are instituted among men for the preservation of those inalienable rights given to us by God. That constitution protects us from you stealing the rights God gave us. Learn it and abide by it. Protect the people, love your neighbor as yourself. Do good unto those.
Speaker 3And then this is the fun part when jesus took his disciples following the pharisees and the sadducees and the leaven, I've had pastors come up to me and say you know what the leaven of the pharisees and the sadducees and paired was? I said what's that? He goes politics. We don't do politics, I just preach the gospel. Politics is dirty. I look at those pastors and I go. The church is dirty. What's your point? They say, well, I just. I just I don't. I'm tired of voting for the lesser two evils. I go unless Jesus is running for office. You're always voting for the lesser two evils. Again, what's your point Other than abdicating your responsibility? Politics, according to Aristotle, is the highest form, the highest form of society.
Speaker 1Our folks one more break today. Stay with us. You're listening to the Wall Builder Show.
Speaker 2Hey guys, it's Tim Barton and I want to tell you about our new book, the American story building the republic. We start with George Washington's president and we've already become a nation. So really now it's how do we function as a nation? And if we look back in American history, the stability, the prosperity, success we enjoyed as Americans is because of the foundation that our early presidents laid, because the examples examples they set. How do we live in America under the Constitution? What is the role of federal government and really what part did each one of these early presidents play? We go to the first seven presidents and a lot of people probably know the names Washington, adams, jefferson and Madison. Very few people know about Monroe or John Quincy Adams or Andrew Jackson. Now we might know some of their names, we really don't know their stories. We want you to relearn, rediscover American history and see how it applies to today. Go to wallbuilderscom and get your copy of the American Story Building the Republic. This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders, with another moment from American history In 1963, the United States Supreme Court decided that voluntary Bible reading could no longer be part of the school day.
Speaker 2Founding Father Benjamin Rush, known as the father of public schools under the Constitution, pointedly warned that the Bible should be read in schools in preference to all other books. He specifically warned that if America ever ceased promoting biblical principles in schools, then we would waste so much time and money in punishing crimes and take so little pains to prevent them. He was right. We now have 7 million Americans in prison on probation or on parole, and the United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Sadly, this was unnecessary, but is the result of no longer teaching the morals of the Bible in schools. For more information about the Founding Fathers' views on the positive impact of the Bible in schools, go to wallbuilderscom welcome back to the wall builder show getting the conclusion of rob mccoy speaking at the pro-family legislators conference.
Speaker 1Let's jump right back in with rob it combines morality with sociability.
Speaker 3If god didn't intend us to be in politics, he would have never have invented marriage, ground rules on how to get along. You do it it in your church meetings, your board meetings. Why is it all of a sudden you get to abdicate and say, oh, I just preached the gospel. What kind of gospel is void? Of the ability to love your neighbors yourself and to do good unto them and to contend for them? In the halls of government, god appoints positions of authority. You're to be actively involved. And after Jesus says, beware of that leaven of people who want you to think that there's no place for that and that oligarchy should reign, he takes them to Caesarea Philippi, and I close with this.
Speaker 3Caesarea Philippi is up at the headwaters of the Jordan. I've been there 22 times. It's up from Galilee. It's a long haul, these Orthodox Jewish boys. When you get up there.
Speaker 3Caesarea Philippi is a resplendent park-like setting that every culture that's dominated the region has set up a temple to their god or goddess. At that time Rome was running it. When they get up there, they're probably worshiping Bacchus, the god of alcohol, or Aphrodite sexual goddess. There's probably drunkenness and nudity these Orthodox boys are. There's probably drunkenness and nudity these Orthodox boys are.
Speaker 3And in the cacophony of noise of pagan worship, jesus turns to his disciples and says who do men say that I am? Some say you're John the Baptist, some say you're Jeremiah. Well, who do you say that I am? And Peter says you're the Christ, the son of the living God. He says. Blessed are you, simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my father in heaven. And upon this rock I will build my church.
Speaker 3No, that word didn't come until hundreds of years later. Jesus co-opted a secular term. He didn't say synagogue, he didn't say temple. He didn't say temple, he said ecclesia. You look it up. Aristotle defined it 400 years earlier.
Speaker 3More than that, excuse me. It means public square, city hall. It's where the citizens of the city state gathered for the welfare of their citizens. And now it makes sense in context Upon this rock I will build my public square, my city hall, and the gates that enslave will not prevail. We'll set the captives free, free to flourish.
Speaker 3That's why America has enjoyed more freedom than any other nation in the history of the world. You fly in an airplane invented by an American, ride in an elevator invented by an American way too much. Air conditioning in here, invented by an American. The internet, invented by an American, not Al Gore. We got freedom, but freedom without the moral law is slavery. You want to do your job right. Memorize that, put it on the frontlets. Every decision you make, make sure it agrees with that moral law and do it for the sake of your neighbor and generations to come. Do not make your decisions by fear of man, but fear of god, and I'll tell you what. Pastors aren't going to win the day. Legislators will. Would you please teach them how to do this? Right the wise restraints that'll make our citizens free. I'm so proud of each and every one of you and thankful.
Speaker 1May God bless you in Jesus' name, amen, all right folks, that was Rob McCoy speaking at the Pro-Family Legislators Conference. It's a two-part program. In other words, if you found us today for the first time first time you ever listened to Wall Builders or maybe you just happened to find us in the middle of the program today and you did not listen yesterday the good news is that the first part of Rob McCoy's presentation yesterday's program is available right now at wallbuildersshow. In fact, you can get both of them, today and yesterday, at the website wallbuildersshow. And here's the great thing you can share it with friends or family, which you should do. That makes you a force multiplier. You're helping us to save the country. When you do that, you're getting this good information in the hands of as many Americans as you possibly can.
Speaker 1A lot of people tell me Rick, I know the country's falling apart, but I don't know what to do. Well, here's an easy one Spread falling apart, but I don't know what to do. Well, here's an easy one Spread the word, help educate people. The petri dish where bad government grows is civic and biblical ignorance, and this program, wall Builders, gives you a chance to cure that, to solve that ignorance and replace it with civic literacy, with biblical literacy, with constitutional literacy. So do your part. Share the program with as many people as you can. Make a one-time or monthly contribution. Help us to get on more stations, reach more people, do more pastors trainings, teachers training, youth training, legislators training all of it. You can help us expand and do more by making a contribution today at wallbuilderscom and then the last website I'll give you, because I think we still have a couple of slots left for the constitutional defense of your family and freedom course taking place just next weekend, Not this coming weekend, but next weekend, july 4th.

We're going to be doing handgun defense training on the ranges and the classroom will be studying the Constitution. We're going to have bread together and have a great time. So if you're not already a part of that, you're missing out, and it's not too late to plan. So check out patriotacademycom today and click on constitutional defense.
