The heart of Texas pulses with stories of political awakening, and our guest Joeylynn Mesaros is a testament to that spirit. Once an undecided voter, her journey to becoming a fervent participant in the political process is as inspiring as it is cautionary. Her recounting of the Trump train event and the subsequent lawsuit she faced under the Ku Klux Klan law is a chilling example of the risks that come with exercising free speech in today’s charged political landscape. Joeylynn transformation from political indifference to active engagement is both a warning signal and a rallying cry for the rights we hold dear.

But there is hope on the horizon, and it lies in the hands of just and wise legal professionals guided by principles of righteousness. Drawing on the wisdom of Isaiah 1:26, we discuss the pivotal role judges play in shaping legal outcomes and the pressing need for informed citizen involvement in electing local judges. The judicial system, at its core, should reflect the constitutional and biblical values that underpin our nation. For those brave enough to stand for free speech, we offer support and resources to join in the essential work of upholding justice and liberty. Join us in this crucial conversation and become part of the movement to restore faith in our justice system.

Rick Green

Welcome to the Intersection of Faith and Culture. It's WallBuilders and we're taking on those hot topics from a biblical, historical and constitutional perspective. Rick Green here with David and Tim Barton. Later in the program we've got a guest on guys that man, This is exactly where the rubber meets the road on the destruction of our justice system and the lack of trust in our justice system.

I had a chance to have her on in the in the tavern recently, the show I do for Patriot U and Warrior Poets Society, just talking about the lawfare, and you know Barry was talking. We had Barry Loudermilk earlier this week and he was talking about, you know, just of course, the show trial of the January 6th committee, all the things that happen that cause people to lose trust in the system. And that's why we've talked about, why it's important to have Barry, because he says I'm going to find, you know, we're going to follow the truth wherever it goes and that's what helps restore some faith in the system. But, man, when you're allowing the system to be so manipulated like when I went to testify for Rebecca Lavrenz at that federal court in DC and it was just so manipulated, what could get to the jury, and so controlled by the judge and the prosecution that she couldn't even tell her side, she couldn't even talk about the First Amendment, and it made me really grieve for our justice system. And here we have today. We're going to talk about a civil case that's very, very similar. It's using lawfare to silence the opposition. What a dangerous road, guys.

Tim Barton

Well, and Rick, I would go back to when you went to testify in federal court. She was not allowed to use the First Amendment in her defense, because if you are doing domestic terrorism, then you have all of your rights suspended as a terrorist. It's part of how the American government works. The problem is, if you go to January 6th, every single defendant not a single one, has even been charged with insurrection. Right, I mean much less convicted right. I mean when you were to convictions, it's only misdemeanors that anybody's been convicted with from January 6th, but nobody's even charged with the insurrection, this kind of terroristic notion, and yet, even though they're not even being charged with that, they're having their rights, the habeas corpus, it's suspended.

And this is where you begin to see the dangers of what's happened, unfortunately, quite often over the last many years I mean, really, some of it started under COVID where you begin to see some of these government powers, government entities, no longer recognizing that rights come from God. And by recognizing I mean political acknowledgement. Right, because there's a lot of people that have thought for years, in the belly of the beast, the government system, that we are the ones who determine the rights for these little people, right, it's very demeaning. They think if they're in Congress or they're in one of these agencies, right, they're somehow involved in the swamp. They're just so much smarter than everybody else. And you really saw this attitude come out very prevalent in COVID, where, just arbitrarily, people were losing their rights. Now you had government officials picking winners and losers when it came to businesses et cetera, and so you saw some of this start in COVID. But since the Biden administration has been in charge, you have seen whether it be district attorneys determining what can and can't be prosecuted, right here in California, and you steal less than a thousand dollars, well then, hey, really that's okay in most locations because we're not going to prosecute that, even though that is still against the law, right, even though that's still a crime, we're not really going to charge them with that. You see just a very different mentality in the framework, politically, legally, and, Rick, as you were telling us after Barry Latimer's interview that okay, there's this lady. You were telling the story and I remembered hearing some of the story and maybe I think I saw it even on the first time she was on with you on the tavern and just crazy what she has gone through, how she is being targeted. Politicians are weaponizing the legal system against her to punish her for supporting Trump.

I mean, literally. It can be considered nothing other than punishing her for supporting Donald Trump, and similar to if we're watching what's happening with Donald Trump with some of these trials, whether it be in Georgia or New York, and it seems like a Democrat strategy. Is they really want to either imprison or bankrupt Donald Trump? Right? They just want to punish him because they hate him and don't like him, not because he overestimated the value of a property up in New York or whatever kind of nonsense they're charging him and trying to prosecute him for. But this is now what they're doing to individual citizens. They're weaponizing the political, the justice system against them and they want to punish them.

The Biden administration, or at least team Biden they're punishing people that do not support and fall in line with the Biden agenda, and it's despicable. But we definitely wanted people to know about her story, because her trial is coming up and there's a massive legal fight, and so somebody we definitely want to be praying for in the midst of all the other nonsense going on, but we definitely want to hear her story as well.

Rick Green

Yeah, and, like you said, I mean it really is. I mean, Joe Biden used the pen of the president to lambast her and essentially claim that, quote unquote the insurrection at January 6th began in San Marcos, with the Trump train running the Biden bus off the road, which of course, never happened, but it makes for good headlines for them and makes for, you know, a nasty sounding case against her. And it turns out she's a sweet homeschool mom with a great family and just wants to be a good citizen. You know, guys, and that's what I worry about is this causes people not to want to participate in citizenship and causes them not to trust the legal system, which is obviously a huge problem. So, yeah, we're going to, we're going to take a quick break, we'll get the part of the interview with Joey, then from the tavern, and then we'll talk about the impact that this can have on our justice system across the country. Stay with us, folks. You're listening to The WallBuilders Show.

Break

Rick Green

Welcome back. I have a neighbor with me. What kind of a neighbor, anyway, here in Texas central Texas in fact. And man, I guess it's been. Has it already been two years, Joeylynn? When did you come on the front porch? That hasn't been, couldn't have been, two years ago.

Joeylynn Mesaros

In 2021.

Rick Green

Time is just like gone, gone, all right is just like gone, gone, all right. Joeylynn Mesaros, a great patriot, a hero and one of the few that is willing to stand against the lawfare out there. She's basically Donald Trump, with much better hair and uh, and much more. Uh, much nicer, right, like, much easier to listen to and uh, but she's got the backbone of a Donald trump anyway. Hey, Joeylynn, good to see you, thanks for coming on.

Joeylynn Mesaros

Wow, Rick, you never disappoint with the introduction. Thank you so much.

Rick Green

So, ok, let's back up because everybody out there is going. Ok, great, Rick, I see you're having a great. Who is she? What is she doing? Listen, Joeylynn, it was on the receiving end of the leftist Marxist silencing machine for simply driving along the highway saying, you know, go Donald Trump. And I don't even know if you said Biden is the worst while you were driving. But you basically just had flags in the back of the truck and the Trump train going down the highway. So let's back up. The Biden bus was coming through Texas uh, through my, you know, our, the county where I live and, uh, and, frankly, used to represent in the legislature, and y'all decided you know what we just want to, you know, welcome them to Texas.

Joeylynn Mesaros

Oh, rick, I had just gotten involved in politics and it was early election. It was, you know, campaign time during 2020. The Trump trains were all over the United States. The Biden bus is coming through and we're thinking, what an awesome chance to show Trump our support here in Comal County in this part of Texas. And so it made the news. We were shocked at what we were hearing mainstream media say. What we were hearing mainstream media say. We loved that it got Trump's attention. But eight months later we learned we were getting sued under the Ku Klux Klan law in federal court by occupants of the bus who were then, eight months later, now White House officials, Democrat politicians, and that they were claiming they had emotional damage from our exercise of free speech. So there are zero criminal charges. They're wanting or claiming to be emotionally damaged and needing financial compensation. But having been in litigation for four years it's so much bigger than that we see that there is definitely an agenda here.

Rick Green

So I want to back up to one small thing you said, because it's not a small thing you had just gotten involved in politics. So you were not a politically active person, certainly not a political hack, certainly not an employee of any big campaign or effort out there. What got you involved? Why, in 2020, did you decide to get involved?

Joeylynn Mesaros

By God's grace, the Make America Great Again movement got our attention. We were wondering why people were so excited about getting involved in politics and understanding them. We wanted to know who to vote for, and I don't know if you remember this or not, but in 2020, I didn't know if I was going to vote for Trump or Biden. That is how disconnected I was. My son was in public school. I left Starbucks Target. I'm a totally different mom now. We homeschool, I milk a goat and drink raw milk in my coffee. Unrecognizable right, just full resistance.

Rick Green

Wait, I'm still stuck on the way to describe how crazy and liberal you were was that you loved Starbucks and Target. That is just classic. That is classic. And then, to prove that you're no longer on that side, I drink raw milk in my coffee. Now the only thing you could have said better there, Joeylynn, you should have said I drink raw milk in my Patriot Brew Coffee made by Patriot Academy. That would have felt like the perfect old school 50s advertisement in the middle of the show.

So I need to ship you some of this.

I don't even know if you've ever tried this. I'm the show, so I need to ship you some of this. I don't even know if you've ever tried this. I'm gonna send you some after the after the show. Okay, I'm sorry, back to you, were just like not not involved at all not paying attention at all, and now I mean homeschooling and very involved.

Um, yeah, you said the wake-up call. What was? What was the wake-up call? Like you didn't say wake up, I was thinking wake up. Well, like what was it? That really was the final straw, man, I got to get involved.

Joeylynn Mesaros

So what happened was I came home and asked my husband should we vote for Trump or Biden? Because all of my friends were saying they were voting for Biden. But my dad said he was voting for Trump. And Robert was like, well, we can research it together and kind of figure it out. And I say by God's grace because we Googled who to vote for, and by God's grace the article we found was kind of debunking all these lies against Trump. And so we're like well, the media is saying all these terrible things about him that aren't true and his values really seem to align with our values. So I tootled back over to my friends and I'm like, oh, I'm going to vote for Trump.

And I didn't understand what cancel culture was. I was just so naive. And so they actually told me I needed to sit there in silence and apologize for my white privilege and I wasn't allowed to continue speaking in the conversation. So when I came home and told my husband that happened, I'm like what is happening? My son, Jude, who was nine at the time, was like mom, it sounds like you need new friends.

And so when we saw the Trump train driving around town, we were like maybe we should make some new friends with that group, and so we had been driving in the Trump trains for three weeks, Rick, when that Biden bus came through. So we didn't even know anybody in that group either. God just totally funneled us into that situation that we just put a flag on the back of the truck and he just used it. And so here we are four years later in the fight of our lives, and I never imagined I never would have picked it, but God's directing it, I'm certain

Rick Green

You know, I mean, I just want this to sink in for people that are watching.

You were not even a month in to being involved and, and all of a sudden, your front page, front line, uh, and, and not only that, the weight of the legal machine coming down on you and you and Robert are like normal American citizens.

You're not uber wealthy, you don't have the ability to fight back against this lawfare that's going on, and so the Marxist tactic is to create a chilling effect and to prevent people like you from waking up or getting involved. So you're their worst case scenario, you're. You know. You and Robert are like. You know, hey, we're just living our life, we're doing our thing, raising our son, and now all of a sudden, hey, we want to be involved, we want to be good citizens, so we're going to get a little bit involved. So you were a little bit involved and they wanted to kick you out and then make an example of you. Not only kick you out, make an example of you.

And so they bring this you know this I don't even know how to describe it to people that have never been sued. I mean, I've been there, you know, in, both criminally and civilly, and it's hard to describe the black cloud that just descends because of all the unknown and all of the fear and all of the intimidation. And you know, you don't even know. You don't know where it's all going to go or how bad it could get it's hard for people to to understand that, but to multiply that.

I mean, I'm a lawyer, I'm a, I was a legislator and I remember the just how much that weighed on our family. Um, you guys are coming out of normal life, not immersed in the political world and in the legal world and all of a sudden that's thrown at you.

How did y'all respond? I mean, what was the initial conversation between you and? To be a fly on the wall for that one where y'all are sitting on the couch going? Hey, guess what? We're getting sued by these people that are at the highest level of politics.

Joeylynn Mesaros

You're so right, Rick. I mean I was sitting by the pool. It was a, you know, a June afternoon. I'm sitting by the pool with my son, I'm on a picnic blanket with a friend and her kid and my phone rings and somebody says did you know that you're getting sued? You are all over the news and I'm like what are you talking about? Because nobody told me I was getting sued, right.

And so I felt like if I was getting sued I would know, somebody would have served me some sort of paperwork. I mean, I'm no pro, but I don't think I'd have to hear about it from somebody else. And so I just do a quick Google search while I'm on the phone with her and it's like the mainstream media was you know that we were white supremacists, domestic terrorists, that we were emboldened racist bigots, that we were Ku Klux Klan, and I'm like what is happening? So I full anxiety. I mean my body went numb, I couldn't breathe, my head was spinning. I didn't really understand what was happening. I called my husband and he's like that sounds like a political stunt. We would know if we're getting sued. Just calm down, everything's fine, I'm sure it's just going to blow over.

And about another month later we got served the paperwork to actually understand the scope of the lawsuit. We understood that it was a civil complaint. It was not criminal. There were 62 pages where they claim that we are like the Ku Klux Klan who are hooded on horseback in the dark of night.

These are direct quotes from the civil complaint that we are a threat to democracy, that we premeditated a plan of assault to run the bus off the road even though that never happened, and that our intent was to suppress minorities from voting, and so me not understanding my constitutional rights. I had no experience, no education, no understanding. You know, I have no clue that I had a right to free speech. And so I'm regurgitating the story to my neighbor that evening while I'm trying to process this civil complaint, and she said this is free speech, like they can't do this to you. And I remember asking her what is free speech like what does that mean? What do you mean? It's free speech, isn't that crazy? I know that that probably just rocks your world with how hard you work to educate people on.

Rick Green

Put me in the timeline here real quick. I'm forgetting when this was July, august 2020?.

Joeylynn Mesaros

Yes, sir. So we drove next to the bus in October 2020. We found out we were getting sued October.

Rick Green

Okay, so this is right before the election.

Okay, gotcha. And then when?

did they sue you?

Joeylynn Mesaros

Yes sir, yeah, so they announced it.

Rick Green

If you say sir, if you say sir to me one more time, I'm gonna kick you out of the tavern. I am not like a 60 year old George Washington. I'm only 53. I'm not quite there yet.

Oh, my goodness,

Joeylynn Mesaros

I'm from Texas I just want to say yes, sir, when you say not to say it, so we find out, we're getting sued in 2021. And then I start begging you for help about two months later, and you took absolute mercy on me. You had me to your home on your porch and helped me tell my story to Front Porch Live viewers at the time, and it was incredible, because I didn't understand what was happening. I knew, though, that we didn't do anything wrong and that I was not going to roll over, that I wanted to fight back. I knew enough. I knew, though, that we didn't do anything wrong and that I was not going to roll over, that I wanted to fight back.

I knew that, and so you gave us a platform to tell our story, and we raised our first $12,000 with you and I can't even believe that your viewers raised that kind of money to support us in our fight and since then, Rick, we've raised $260,000 in our fundraiser, which is phenomenal. We cashed out our 401k you probably remember that and we very quickly ran out of money, but we did not want to give up the fight, and I know they expected us already to have run out of money or rolled over and given up because they've coerced and forced by persuasion other defendants into apologizing and settling. You may also remember they sued the city of San Marcos police department under the Ku Klux Klan law and said that they allowed us to intimidate minorities from voting and that the city of San Marcos apologized. The city manager made a public statement apologizing and they paid out one hundred and seventy five thousand dollars to for their emotional damage. So the voter base that when-

Rick Green

I'm embarrassed that that's my home county this is why I'm leaving Hayes county and moving to Fredericksburg. Uh,

Joeylynn Mesaros

Rick, they agreed to put them through. They agreed in their negotiation to put their entire police force through political violence training to prepare for 2024. This sets a precedent, because what they just did about four weeks ago is filed a motion with our judge trying to force us to settle, saying that because other defendants rolled over and apologized and the city of San Marcos settled that it only seems fair and fitting for us to do the same thing, and they wanted us to go into mediation with a very biased judge. I'm like, so this is how precedent works, and you know that. And so, thankfully, by God's grace, yet again the motion was defeated. We're headed to trial by jury in June to use their evidence against us to vindicate ourselves from their lies.

Rick Green

Oh, wow, ok, so break that down. Use their evidence against you to vindicate you from their lies. So you're saying even their best evidence actually makes your case.

Joeylynn Mesaros

Amen, that's exactly what I'm saying. This has been replete with lies. From the beginning. They've leveraged the media to slander what happened that day. They lied, saying that Biden himself got up on a press release and said we ran that bus off the road, which absolutely never happened. The same-

Rick Green

Of course his relatives were eaten by cannibals and you know a lot of other things that come out of his mouth that aren't true too. But I mean, yeah, how sad that even the president of the United States would lie about you and lie about this case.

Joeylynn Mesaros

Well, and here's what's even crazier, it's not just we are just collateral damage, we're pawns in this. We have watched the same. We've watched through the impeachment trial against Trump, when they just tried to use January 6th to keep him off the ballot in the future. They also were using the Biden bus lawsuit in the impeachment trial saying that we were a precursor to the insurrection.

We were the test balloon for inciting insurrectionists. And then they, in the 14th Amendment hearing in Colorado that we just watched happen over the holidays, where they were trying to keep Trump off the ballot. The prosecuting attorney's opening remarks included the video of us driving next to the Biden bus, where he lies and says the bus was run off the road by the Trump supporters. It literally never happened. They are lying and fabricating stories to interfere with the election and they're destroying Americans lives to do it.

Rick Green

FreeSpeechDefender.com. Did I get that right?

I always have to ask because I want to make sure I get it right. Okay, freespeechdefender.com everybody, listen to what you just heard. Okay, she's got the weight of the world on her right now. Literally our Constitution lies in the ballots. The least we can do is donate to the defense fund. I'm going to also ask you to pray for her, to come alongside her If we end up doing any kind of an event or an opportunity to tell you about and the website will tell us that, right, anything you've got coming up and keep us updated on the case and hearings and all that kind of stuff.

So everybody needs to go there, you need to get signed up and you need to support this family. And, believe me, when I come back, I've got some harsh words for those who are destroying our Constitution. Joeylynn, god bless you. Keep the great attitude. We're praying for you, we're with you and, regardless of what happens in June, we're with you through this whole fight and I'm already praying for who the three judges are that you're going to draw from the Fifth Circuit. Appreciate you coming on.

Joeylynn Mesaros

Thank you, Rick,

Rick Green

and we'll be back in just a moment.

Break

Rick Green

We're back on WallBuilders. Thanks for staying with us, back with David and Tim Barton. And David I learned this verse well from the Bible, but I learned the application of it from you, out of Isaiah. You know, lawyers at the beginning, judges at the first, then you'll be the righteous city. Guys, man, how many lawyers and judges do we have that are like at the first, that have the wisdom of Solomon, and then, when the whole system itself is being manipulated, I got to tell you guys, this one grieves me. This is a big deal.

David Barton

Yeah, it is a big deal. And if you go biblically, righteousness exalts the nation is what the Bible said. So God looks to see how you do things. If you do it the right way, you'll be blessed. God bless America, good for us. But the only way we get blessed by God is if we do the right stuff. And, Rick, as you mentioned, Isaiah 1:26 says that if your judges do the right thing and if you have justice in the courts, then that's what will bring righteousness on our nation.

What we've got is we now have a system of lawfare where it doesn't matter what the law says. It matters that we crippled you by keeping you in court, by damaging your reputation, by causing you to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, by not allowing you to have certain defenses in court. We'll forum shop to find judges that believe what we believe. That's not the way this has to work, and the good news about this is as egregious as this case is, as much lawfare as it is. It did happen in a state where we do have a fairly good set of justices on the appeals court in Texas that have done a great job of being Constitutionalists. They don't care about the outcome, they care about the Constitution, and so if that hurts either side, so be it. They took note of the Constitution and that's my greatest hope for this case is that I don't know what will happen with the court Travis County, Austin, but I know that when it goes up we've got some great Constitutionalists waiting for it up top.

Tim Barton

Well and specifically, that's the Fifth Circuit, right, and there are still definitely some secular leftists on the Fifth Circuit, so it does depend on what judges she gets, Rick, as you even mentioned during the interview. But the good news is that they can, I would assume and I mean you guys can speak to this more. They can do.

I think it's on Bok, right where they bring in all the justices or all the judges for the Fifth Circuit

Rick Green

Might be 15 or 20 on these court of appeals, depending on which one, but

Tim Barton

well if it gets to that right, then I feel really good about what's going to happen.

But, guys, one of the things that also just reminds and confirms to me right is we are now at a time when it does make a significant difference what judge you have as to what the outcome of your case might be, and it's something that I think so often we are now learning more and more right that, okay, it does matter who's in the school board, it does matter who our mayor is, it does matter who our governor is, but you know what?

It matters who your judges are, and a lot of local judges are elected positions and most Americans they don't even know who these people are right, they don't know what they do, and this is yet again another example of an area where that Christians can get involved and they can be part of the solution in this process going forward. How do we restore a biblical foundation? How do we restore the Constitution? You have to have people that believe in that, that know that and that get involved in the political system, which includes even maybe running for a local judge, a district judge, a JP, etc. We got to have more people involved in the right way in this process.

Rick Green

Well, we sure appreciate her being willing to stand and willing to fight and folks can come alongside her and help her at freespeechdefender.com. Thanks so much for listening. Today You've been listening to The WallBuilder Show.
